Huge to-do (once you get back)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to give you a headsup on the passports.  Once you change you get your legal documents from your DW and change your name, make sure you immediately go through the process of getting your new passports!  It is free (minus the new picture you need to take).  If you wait, you must purchase a whole new passport at full price.  FYI- This must be done within a year of the issue of your passport.  Here is the link to get the forms you need.  http://travel.state.gov/passport/correcting/ChangeName/ChangeName_851.html

note to Canadian brides: I just checked passport Canada and it is NOT free for us. (boo!) You have to go through the entire application process right from the start to get your new passport in your new name.  I remember confirming this with them before because I literally had to pay to renew my passport just for our wedding trip only to have to pay AGAIN and get a new one once we get our marriage certificate.

Aww! I read the first post and thought, Cool! That's great!!  And then I read the second post and thought, Well that just bites. We Canadians really get the short end of the stick sometimes. :oÞ

Although, I think I'm coming up on my expiry date anyway, so it's not too big a deal for me.
