Pot Luck?

Anyone doing/has done a pot luck AHR? FI and my mom think this is a great idea. Part of me likes the idea (less cost for us. not to mention less hassle) but part of me feels bad at asking people to bring something to what will essentially be our reception.

And if you are doing a pot luck, where are you having it?

Hmmmm....I think generally if you are hosting a reception then you should provide the food/drinks. But, if you have a relaxed group of family/friends and want to do a casual celebration I don't think there is anything wrong with it...but don't be surprised if you get some flack for it. IMO if it's a pot luck it would be somewhere very casual like a park or backyard.

I tend to agree with this. Honestly for our AHR i wanted to do a BBQ backyard style thing. Maybe just do something simple like it :)

i think it is a horrible idea. if i was invited to a wedding reception and they told me it was a pot luck, i would think twice about going...it takes work and time to make something and cart it somewhere to serve.

and i am one of those people that actually LOVES cooking and bringing food to people...i do when friends have babies, to my son's school etc. but to be asked to bring something to a reception to me is a little tacky.

I'm all for a casual get together with family and friends to celebrate, however I personally know someone who got this, and I can honestly say that pretty much everyone in attendance was talking smack about it the WHOLE night. It was pretty terrible.

Perhaps just a casual BBQ would be better?
