Small Wedding - what itinerary?

Recommended Posts

Ok, our wedding is very small, us and 4-6 other people. We are not having BM/GM and the ceremony is symbolic. We weren't planning a traditional reception because of the small number of people but what do we do after the ceremony? Do you still have a reception? Just go eat at one of the restaurants? (we're in an AI) Just curious how other small groups are handling things. I feel like we'll have the cermony and then I'll say "Now what?" :)

Hello.

We are doing the same thing, no BM/GM, just the 2 of us with maybe 10 people. We are going to have a cocktail hour while we are doing after wedding pics on the beach our guests can enjoy themselves while we are off taking our pics. We are going to do a private dinner after the cocktail hour, they, Excellence Playa Mujeres, close 2 of their restaurants every night, so we will have our dinner in a closed one so it is private. Since it is an all-inclusive, it will on be an additional $14.00 per person for each event, so we thought that would be nice for everyone and not cost us too much either. :-) After the dinner, we are just going to play it by ear.

I hope this helps you, I was wondering what to do as well, but I am happy with our plan.

Good Luck!

Smiles,

Shanna

We're in the same boat. Only 16 of us including my FH and I. We're doing cocktails, pictures and a long, intimate dinner. I contacted a local restaurant and told them what we wanted and they are doing a private dinner with a traditional Amalfi Coast cake. We kind of opted out of the traditional wedding cake b/c of the small number of people.

Wow...I've been wondering about this as well, but didn't think to ask. We are having a symbolic ceremony at Moon Palace with about 15 family members and friends. Our families and friends are all from very different walks of life...so we too have wondered what to do afterwards that would be ok for everyone. Ultimately we are going to have the ceremony at 1pm, champagne toast and cake afterwards and then an afternoon siesta break! We are having a dinner on the terrace of one of the restaurants (not a private function as it is too costly). The restaurant typically has some sort of musicians in the evening so we are not paying for a dj or a band. No fireworks, paper lanters or dance floor either. Just an intimate dinner with 15 of our closest peeps....with a small gift at everyone's plate and a good time.

I think this is the way to go and I like everyone else's ideas posted above as well! :)

We had just over 30, so a little bigger but Iour schedule was something like this:

2PM Wedding (actually started at 2:30 since MIL was 20 minutes late)

3:00-4:30 Social Hour with Mariachis, we took pictures during this time

4:45-6:15 Food, toasts, thank yous and cake

6:30 or so - we watched the sunset from the room of the house

7:00 or so - we all hit the pool and hot tub

We kept it super simple... I was worried about having a father daughter dance, cake cutting, all the other traditional things people do, but we really only had a little push back from MIL when we didn't cut the cake in front of everyone. I think the key is to keep things flowing. People liked that it wasn't a traditional wedding.

My wedding was small.... there was 10 of us in total. We all went to one of the restaurants and the hotel surprised us with our own private room. We were there for hours just having a good time. After that we lost 2 people to bed, but that was because they had a baby, so there were 8 of us. We went to one of the bars, plugged in our own ipod and docking station and danced till midnight (which was when the bar closed). Then we moved on to the disco until 2am! Everyone had an amazing time and we basically winged the whole thing.

Thanks to all for the replies - they really help. I guess I should also added that our ceremony is at 11:00am! So, maybe cocktails after might be a little early! But hey, we're all on vacation right? :) Guess we could do a brunch like thing with mimosas and such then maybe just hang out at the pool! Riokayak, can't believe your MIL was late!!!

Oh I love the idea of brunch w/ mimosas! That souns like something we would do if we were getting married that early!

We're having 9 people at our wedding, but it's at 4 p.m. Our package includes a cocktail hour w/ apps for our guests to enjoy while we're taking pics and then we're going to have a private and intimate dinner w/ our family. We'll do one 1st dance, but not dj or dance floor, just our ipods or maybe a friend's guitar.
