I was wondering if anyone had either of these. I have so many books. Stacking 2 deep on my bookcase. I love the idea of this. Does anyone have either? I know theres so many pros and cons I'd love to hear your views! My sister has the Sony and loves it.

Love my Kindle, got it for hubby for xmas last year and hijacked it after he opened it. Because we live in the islands, hauling books back in luggage gets expensive and since our home is open air (no a/c or glass windows just screens) all of our books get musty quick, plus the storage component (I took 8 large suitcases to our library in the spring and still have boxes downstairs...we have a serious book habit).

Pros...cheaper than the printed copy, download quickly, saves space, have at your finger tips, much easier to manage (perfect on the airplane and at the gym), and I am reading things I normally wouldn't check out because they are so easy to get.

With Oprah endorsing the Kindle recently the listings on Amazon seem to have grown a lot.

LOVE it...no cons.

I researched the Kindle because I thought I might ask for it for Xmas this year. Basically what I found out is that it is a good invention, but I did read a lot of cons on it that made me decide to wait for another version to come out. Some that I can remember - if there are any graphics in your book, A) they won't show up in color and B) i can't remember exactly but I think the quality is not very good. I really don't like that it won't show color because it allows you to download magazines as well... The good thing is that Amazon has a TON of books available for download to this particular device. All in all I don't think it's worth the cost, and like I said I'll probably wait for either the cost to come down or another version to come out on the market...

I'm gonna go check on that Sony one...

Ok - I was reading about the Sony and someone said to download THIS software (otherwise it's pretty user-UNfriendly and tries to sell you stuff more than makes stuff accessible)...

calibre

This software is "free-open source" (they only ask for a donation).

Ok so now I'm leaning towards the Sony! I'd love to hear others' opinions! :)

K I was on my way to buy the Sony and turned around. I finally made my decision. I ordered the kindle. The things why.

THe library with amazon is MUCH more extensive than sony. Not only do they have more books they are cheaper. You can get new books for 9.99 at amazon. Yes Sony comes with 100 free at signup but they are only the classics. I'm not that into the classics.

I like instant download. I'm more away from home than at my computer. So pre-thinking about what books to get wasn't high up there. I like that I can get a book when I hear about it instantly.

I like that I can highlight and take notes. I do that in my books I can't with the Sony.

Sony is not know for its software and all the bad things I heard about it's store made me go with Kindle.

I think in the long run amazon will get more books and last longer than the Sony.

Big dislike! I DON"T GET IT UNTIL FEBRUARY! Stupid Oprah announcing and giving the 50 bucks off makes me have to wait and I don't even get the 50 bucks off! I wanna slap her upside her face. Haha just kidding. Oh well I can't wait till I get it!!
