ooohhh... I already have my wedding band, so I know how exciting it is to get them. Congrats, can't wait to see some pics!!!

Aww.. thanks... I am considering doing the bouts too.. however they are pretty cheap at the resort ($6) so I may just stick with that. If I decide to do them, I'll post pics and how i did it.

oooooooohhh a shower, that sounds like so much fun, yeah my mom wont let me get away with some of the traditional things like shower, she would even like me to get my rings blessed before we leave for DR!

She was upset with me at first when I told her we were doing DW, she's happy now because I told her we were doing AHR!

I can't wait to see pics of the shower as well. When will you have it? or will it be a suprise?

you can't beat $6 a bout.. that's a great price.

i'm lucky that my brother is getting married before me. my parents have seen all of the ridiculous little details that, in the end, may not have much meaning other than making other people happy and i have been able to get around a lot of them!

the shower should be the first weekend in march. it's definitely not going to be a surprise since i've already been informed that i have to help prepare for it! it won't be anything big though.. no games or anything like that. just food, presents and good company!

Hi guys!

I've been MIA lately (we bought a house, and we move in less than a month, so wedding planning has been replaced with house planning!). Everything is looking great on here! Thanks for sharing photos of centerpieces, bouquets, etc, they are very inspiring! Ebredhawk, where did you get your towels/bags? I want to do something like that instead of a favour, like a customized mug or something, but I'm having a hard time finding anything reasonably priced.

congrats taratoons! i know what its like to replace wedding planning with house buying/planning. my fi and i were in your shoes in may... and now months later we are finally 90% moved in (last sat and sun we moved in a lot of our furniture!). the other 10% we will have to get to this weekend or the next couple of weekends, we have a million things to unpack now!

erin- congrats on your ring being done! did you design your ring? i'm curious how that whole process went bc we have our rings and mine doesnt exactly match my engagement ring. i was contemplating using the metal and diamonds from my wedding band and somewhow incorporating it with my engagement ring.. but that'll mean months w.o seeing both rings, letting alone wearing my e-ring.

my mom wants me to have a shower but fi and i have decided on a no-gift policy... is anyone else doing this? how is a shower possible with no gift giving?

Oh man, FI and I haven't even started shopping for wedding bands yet, although it is high on my list of things to hassle him about :) I think it makes him nervous because then it's REAL (haha, because planning the wedding is the girls thing, wearing a wedding band is the guys thing LOL!).

I think we're the most atypical because we aren't doing an AHR and as best I know no showers for me. It's just totally not our thing and I think most of our friends understand that pretty well (our families both live in different provinces so our moms can't spring too much on us!). I've even declared that my bachellorette/stagette party isn't going to be at the bar, but rather at the all-season paintball fields!!! I'm SOO excited for that. The girls can still dress me up in whatever ridiculousness they want, but I get to play paintball too!!!

That aside, I think if you want your guests to know that no gifts are required you could add a comment like "since I wouldn't be able to share any gifts with the group, we'd love you to bring a tasty treat to share instead" and then just have your mom and bridesmaids help spread the word that you are just happy to have your guests there and you have no gift-opening portion planned for the shower anyways.

Tara & Tonya - Congratulations on the new houses - so exciting!

Erin - so nice to have a shower!

Tonya - I think it's nice to not want gifts - we don't either, but if you have a shower, people will bring them, regardless of whether or not you tell them to. If you want to go with Emily Post, you aren't supposed to mention gifts at all in any invitation, but you can spread the word and put it on your website if you have one that you don't want any, or go with Meghan's idea or ask for donations to a charity.

I am sincerely hoping that nobody makes me a shower. We have been trying to get rid of things - not get any more things! But we're both 40 and had to combine 2 homes and 20 years of living on our own and accumulation! I'm not having a bachelorette party either, I have no bridal party and we're not having an AHR.

FI supposedly picked out wedding bands for us when he picked out my e-ring - I have no idea what they look like but he did a great job with my ring, so I'm going to trust him with this.

right now I have my invitations in my living room and need to address them but I can't get motivated to do it!

And my ticker says 6 months 2 weeks 5 days, but my countdown clock on Facebook says 200 days, which seems like an important number doesn't it?
First - I apparently am the poorest person with etiquette so I can see why its suggested that you don't even mention it. I guess it all depends on who is planning your shower and how good they are at passing on messages to your guests verbally.

That's awesome that your FI picked out the wedding bands at the same time for you guys! Mine was just too wrapped up in getting the e-ring in the first place.

As for the invites, I just figure that the quicker I can get them done and sent out then a) it's one less thing to be working on for the moment but B) all your guests get to see them and I can definitely bet that it will make them all the more excited for your wedding! I asked one of my girlfriends to be a bridesmaid the other day and now she can't stop talking about our wedding! It's such a milestone to officially have them sent out!! And if you still need motivation beyond that, I'd say leave them for tonight and call a girlfriend to come have a glass of wine while you do them :)

So I am finally all caught up and I am so amazed at how far you ladies have come... CONGRATS to you all!! Like I told you all before I have been on a wedding planning hiatus for a couple months and I really need to get in gear and get going again.

Thanks for all the encouragement on the home-buying process... That has been a whirlwind in itself!! I never knew we were going to move so fast with the process... Within a matter of a week my FI and heard about a program our county was doing that gives up to $20K in down-payment and closing assistance to First-time buyers in order to rejuvinate the housing market. So we met w/ a realtor, looked at homes, found the one, got a pre-approval, and put in a contract in about a week's time!! Needless to say I had to get educated about the process really quickly!! We are still waiting to hear back to see if our offer has been accepted, and we hope to hear something soon!!

Before my hiatus I did get a few things accomplished, I hope to soon have a list as long as the rest of you soon. As of now I have:

My dress (which is being kept at a friend's house)

My shoes

My jewelry

Ordered flowers

Booked photographer/videographer

Bought FI shirt and tie

Picked out BM dresses

Bought most of the BM gifts

I'm sure there are some things I'm missing, but all my wedding related info is on my laptop at home!!

The next item on my agenda are my formal invites which need to go out immediately... I planned to DIY them, which will defintely be a huge undertaking!! Am I crazy for trying this?? I just don't want to spend tons of cash on them...
