Dollar Dance? Heard of it?

Recommended Posts

The one I know of is when the bride will dance with anyone for a dollar, some families pin the dollar on the dress and others just collect the dollars! There might be more variations but that's the one I know!

Have you tried searching the forum? Please do not create threads for the sake of creating threads. I just did a search and the dollar dance was mentioned in 32 threads and was in the title of one thread. I am closing this thread and merging it with the other - http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t28799

Please utilize the search function as we don't need multiple threads discussing the same topics b/c it bogs down the forum and make it hard for future brides to research when the information is among so many different threads.

I agree future mrs2010. Every wedding and every bride and groom are each unique and have a different situation with different guests. You just have to know your guests and decide to do it or not. Every wedding I've been to, they have had one (but these are not DW weddings) - my cousin made out with over $700 bucks just from the money dance. I actually always make sure to bring cash to weddings for this reason.

I'm not planning on doing it at our wedding though. I just know our guests are really strapped for money (as I'm sure a lot of us are out there) and they are having a really tough time getting to PV, so I didn't want to put any pressure on them to give us money for the money dance.

But I do love the tradition! Again, I think you just have to know your guests.

I'm from Michigan and I'd been to a few weddings that had them. My fiance is from Cali and had one at his wedding to his ex. He brought it up to me and said he'd only dance if it was for the dollar dance (he hates dancing).

No matter how it's been presented, to me, it always seemed like a money grab. The only way I'd do it is if I donated the money to charity or to JDRF.

I'm from IL and I've never been to a wedding that has not had the dollar dance! I guess I never thought about it being a regional thing...it never crossed my mind that some people don't do this, lol. I won't be doing it at my DW, although I'm sure I will at my AHR because everyone will expect it. I guess if you think about it, it does seem weird for the guest to pay the host for some interaction but honestly I've never thought of it that way until it was mentioned here. I'm just going to go with it and have fun with it at my AHR because almost all of my guests there are from the same area and they just consider it a fun tradition.

I live in the midwest (Missouri) and I don't think I have ever been to a wedding where they didn't have a dollar dance.

The men dance with the bride and the woman dance with the groom.

At the weddings that I've been to the bride and groom are on the dance floor with the MOH and BM (who collect the money) From what I've seen in the past it's also a great opportunity for the photographer to get photos with some of your guests he/she probably other wise would not have. Everyone wants to dance with the bride and everyone wants their picture taken with her.

Honestly, it's probably the one time where I see the most people on the dance floor.

Oh dear. Dollar dances? Personally, If I am a guest at a wedding, up until then I've usually bought the couple an engagement gift, bridal shower gift, and money in the wedding card. If I felt like I was still being asked to contribute anything else, I think I would be offended.

I was at a wedding in Montana where the groomsmen kidnapped the bride for ransom and wouldn't let her back until the amount was collected from these poor guests (all who I may add were standing in a church basement drinking punch and eating paper cupfuls of peanuts). The grooms mother just about died from embarrasment.

Obviously it is up to the couple but I think it is tacky.
