No planning until arrival?

Recommended Posts

Oh yeah, I loved your idea of getting the limobus to take you all to the airport! I was wondering how we'd do it if both our families were going away! There'd be no one to drive us or drop us off, so that's a great idea! thanks.

I'm with you guys on the low planning before hand. When i first began to look into a DW and found this amazing site, I was thinking that I would have a lot of planning to do, and I was initially looking forward to it, even though we said we wanted to go away so we wouldn't have to plan. But now that we have almost everyone booked, and have our date, I really don't think I want to do a lot of detailed planning.

The reason my fiancé and I chose a DW was for the simplicity it could offer, and i was getting carried away and forgetting why we were doing it. So my main goal of this whole process is to really just chill out and let things happen as they do, and just enjoy the moment. Which is a very hard thing for me as I am a planner, so this is a great learning experience!

LOL. I know what you mean DEH83. I was so stressing when we were deciding on resorts and dates and who and what, but now that we decided and are booked, I almost don't care about anything else. I'm just happy our families will be with us.

I'm also a planner so it's very hard for me to let go and leave all the decisions until the day before the biggest day of my life!

You can do as much or as little as you want for your wedding.

The only thing you really need is a confirmation of the date, location, and dinner reservations appropriate to the number of guests.

IF you want something specific you should let the WC know early so she can make the appropriate arrangements. For example, if you want a band, tell her so she can note it in your file and be sure they are available on your day. If you want a particular bouquet then let her know. Flowers that are not indigenous usually have to be shipped in and require a week or two notice, so if your heart is set on Calla lilies you'll need to order them before you arrive.

I did a lot of planning but honestly, most of it was getting info to my guests. We did OOT bags and those were a lot of fun, but our guests certainly weren't expecting them.

I had a file of inspiration photos and copies of all e-mail confirmations that I took to the meeting with my WC. We went with the free package and just added the extras that we wanted. I didn't know what our dinner menu was until I walked into the restaurant!

I think the whole idea of having a destination wedding, especially in punta cana, is to have a more laid back attitude about everything. alot of people seem to stress about not talking to their wedding coordinator every month(and i dont mean to offend anyone)... but its a more laid back attitude there. I think not stressing over centerpieces and such is a great benefit to have a DW! good luck!

Hey Everyone...glad to have found this thread! I'm definately not bringing centrepieces or other decorations like that with me but am looking forward to creating the OOT bags with my BM's and my Mom. Our rationale for going away was to save on costs, have a laid back day and to leave it to the professionals :)

Like most of you girls, we're not doing a ton of planning either other than for OOT bags & bridal party gifts; not bringing any decorations, etc. Giving some thought to menu & flower ideas but all those details won't be decided til we get there. We did hire an outside photog & are considering a dj, but we'll see.

Part of the DW experience, for us, is liberating yourself from the OCD planning that can easily go along w/ having a traditional wedding (although I'm obsessively addicted to this site!!)

I am amazed on how easy on DW is....and it's hard for me to understand why brides would want to spend a yr of there life stressing over a traditional wedding....to each there own, but if they only knew....lol. On the other hand it is hard to imagine the biggest day of your life decided a day in advanced....that amazes me, and scares me at the same time. I leave it in their hands, as long as my familly is there and healthy, I'm happier than a pig in poop!!!!!

I have already booked our wedding as well and have a package with the resort. I am not bring center peices or anything like that. We are doing OOT bags for our guest. We really wanted to show them how much we appreciated them coming that long way. And really I'm so excited about them!! When we get to the resort we will meet with the wc before the wedding and pick flowers, cake and food. Thats it!! Im so excited I dont have to worry about programs that no one will look at, or going around to differnt flower shops and finding the best flowers. This was the best idea so far to have a dw. I can't wait till the day gets here! Good luck with your planning!

lol I was one of those brides who brought down a bunch of stuff like linens, centerpieces, candles, favours, place cards, you name it! While the extras are nice and I'm glad I brought them they definitely NOT NEEDED :) The beach and the grounds of the resort are so beautiful that people really don't notice centerpieces and linens etc. I used the flowers from the resort package and they were gorgeous so I didn't need anything else really..

I think as long as you book your date/location/time and a good photographer as early as possible you're good to go with planning everything else upon arrival..
