Almost Ready to Choose Resort...Am I making a mistake??

Recommended Posts

After seveal months of looking into resorts for our February 2010 wedding I think I am almost ready to sign a contract. Origianally we were going with the RIU Santa Fe, but the 80% rule was going to be a problem as we have several friends with timeshares. Now we're looking at the Westin Los Cabos. It looks beautiful, is reasonably priced and Maira has been very quick to answer all my questions and has even called me.

So why am I worried? There are only a few reviews of the Westin here and some pretty bad comments on the food on some other hotel review sites. Just wondering if I'm crazy to go with my gut and personal experience or do I need to rely on more reviews. Anyone here with comments on Westin? You girls seem to be more reasonable than some of the other travel sites in terms of comments!!

I think you should take a look at Trip Advisorc.com and read some of the reviews there. I was considering that resort as well but I decided against it b/c:

-The resort seemed TOO big (but you can fix this by making sure they put your guests all in the same area)

-The resort is built on a steep hill and it seems as if people have had accidents walking up and down the stairs (I couldn't risk this b/c my 80 year old grandparents will be attending)

-I also read something about a serious bug problem (mosquitos and flies). Check to see if this is a problem in Feb.

I know the resort is offering amazing deals to brides right now (which is great), I was tempted to pick the westin in cabo as a location but decided to go with PV. Just be sure to do your homework to make sure you are making the best decision for your event. :)

i think you need to look at different site for reviews and think about them.however we are all different and some things that someone does not like does,nt mean that it will be a problem for you.i think you need to go with your instinct and discuss it with your h2b.

have you looked on trip advisor?everyone i know uses it and it is pretty accurate i think.try not to worry too much.choose what is the most important to you on your special day and make sure that is catered for everything else will sort itself out.

After looking at Trip Advisor just to double check the places, like the ladies above suggested, I would say go with your gut. I find ,9 times out of 10, that's usually the one ends up being the best route. Plus you don't want to kick yourself later when you think "man, smile35.gif I should've followed my gut!" Either way, I'm sure whichever you pick will be great & everything will work out. You've proabably got it narrowed down to your fav 2 or 3 so they can't be too bad, right? Good luck on making a decision!!

Meg&Shay is getting married at Westin Los Cabos. I'm not sure she's done a site visit but she is very thorough with research. Talk to her about her thoughts and what she's heard.

I don't think there is one resort out there that has zero bad reviews....

and 2 girls on here got married at my resort in the same week and had vastly different experiences. You never know what's going to happen, but like Candice said, go with your gut.

This is the hardest decision to make and you have to go with your gut. I put a lot of faith in the tripadvisor reviews - it's ultimately why I ended up going with the Hilton over the Cabo del Mar and Westin. That isn't to say you can't have an amazing wedding at those other venues, but I had concerns based on reviews of those places so I "went with my gut" and chose the Hilton and it was the right choice for us. Are there any other places you are considering besides the Westin? I'd say the Sheraton and Hilton are comparable but with better reviews than the Westin overall, though not sure how pricing works out in February.

remember that reviews are more often written if people are upset about something and want to vent. Angry people are passionate people :P

my travel agent told me that new resorts almost always get terrible reviews, especially on food, because they have kinks to work out. They have lots of time to become amazing before your wedding.

It is one of the most beautiful resorts I have seen pics of in mexico!!

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I think we're going with the Westin. Just waiting for the contract. Maira there has been so much more responsive than anyone else at the other resorts that I just feel like I should go with her. The photos are so amazing and the price is right. I figure wherever I am it's still in cabo so I'll be happy!

I've read a lot on trip advisor, but have to remind myself that some people who will find something to complain about no matter what! We spent a week in Sedona, AZ and I was really worried about our resort because of a few bad Trip advisor reviews. The resort turned out to be amazing, so hopefully I'll have the same experience for our wedding. I will be sure to let everyone know!
