Anyone quitting smoking?

I didn't quit until after our wedding. Actually I haven't smoked now since September '08. I took Chantix and it worked like a CHARM!!!! I had a few set-backs early on, but I have lost any and all cravings for cigarettes since then! I highly recommend Chantix!!!

I'm so happy to have found this thread too! I'm a smoker and even though there have been many times I've wanted to quit, I haven't. My FH is a smoker as well. I never thought about it, but when you all mention that you feel like you would be missing out on something, it totally struck a chord with me. I will continue to check back on this thread to see how everyone is doing. It is an inspiration to me! Congrats to all those that have quit, no matter how long or short of time it's been. You have given me hope!! Thank you too for posting what has worked/hasn't worked for you.

Keep up the good work ladies!! Thank you again!!

Hey ladies! I am a smoker as well and really want to quit but haven't been able to. My FI doesn't smoke but all my friends do so its hard to actually do it. About 2 months ago I was able to stop for about 3 weeks but I went back slowly but surely. A big reason was weight gain. I have already gained about 10 pounds in a year and in the two weeks I went up 5 pounds! censored.gif

Congrats to all that have quit!!!!

And Good luck to those trying to stop!!!! My prayers are with all of you!

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks for me. Of corse I knew i needed to quit but i didn't want to. I never somked in the house or car with my kids but i enjoied it! My FH quit drinking and then decided to stop smoking also. I thought, wow, if he could stop drinking and smoking then I could stop smoking also. I still chew 1-2 peices of gum a day and i am proud of myself. I smoked for 20 years!

I have only gained 3 pounds but that is 3 more pounds that i have to lose before the wedding sad.gif But hey, Im gonna be healthier right.

Seriously girls - you CAN do it! I was always the one who LIKED smoking (gross, I know) but I quit in March, and now even when I want to sneak one ( i do have an emergency pack in my house lol) anyways they always taste disgusting. And honestly, I never thought I'd get to that point! But trust me, it is sooo hard at first, but it is worth it in the end! And as far as the weight gain, I let myself eat anything I wanted while I was initially quitting, can you imagine trying to diet AND quit smoking??!! No way! Good Luck girls!

Hey ladies

I quit smoking a little over two years ago. It's tough, but hang in there, it is so worth it!! I did gain a few pounds, but what's a few pounds in the large scheme of things. I used the money I saved from quitting to go to Peru!! And, I climbed Machu Picchu without huffing and puffing!

I quit smoking for 2 years - here and there I would have a cig..you know socially and then suddenly after about a year of doing that I was back to smoking regularly. I smoke about 5 a day now - I use to smoke a pack a day... but I just need to start all over again and go through that horrible first few weeks. It is really hard and seems so silly that something so horrible for you would be so hard not to do! Anyway, I would like to stop effective immediately :) I will keep up with this thread - great idea. Wishing you all the best of luck!!!!

You can do it!!!! It may seem impossible at times but you can do it. I quit many times before also and now it has been 4 years since I quit. I wish there was a secrect but I never stopped wanting a cigarette, that urge wont go away for a long time...........but instead of trying to make myself not want one I told myself I could not have one. So I absolutly was not allowed!! I believe that is what got me over the hump! Again each day after day I wanted a cigarette so bad but I was not allowed to have one. It is is your mind. I used the patch for physical withdrawls for about a week and then didn't need it after that. Good luck. Once you make up your mind you can do it even if you are planing a wedding. wink.gif

Congrats to all of you girls who quit!!

I'm a pack a day smoker.. and like you Betsy.. I totally enjoy it! At the same time though I HATE the smell on me afterwards, the shortness of breath, the COST. Soo I'm really trying to pep myself up to take the plunge.

Thanks to Tami's recommendation my Dr. wrote me a prescription for Chantix... and I waited 3 weeks to fill it.. now i'm scared to start taking it.. but I stare at it everyday and want to start ASAP. I'll let you all know when I get the courage how it works for me!

I wish I had found this thread a couple months ago, as I have tried & failed, and now I'm too stressed to try again. I have everything I need- patches, gum, even an e-cig, but I am just about outta my mind with everything to do, and no help from anyone! When I try again, I hope this thread is still here!
