I agree...I think most elderly people just accept it. They spend so much time watching others pass on that they make peace with the fact that they will as well. My grandmother spends more time in the hospital with sick/dying friends & relatives than she does at home. It's kind of sad, but it's pretty much her social life! I few years back I went to the funeral home & did a pre-arrangement with her. It was weird, but it was something that she wanted to do & I was honored that she asked me to do it with her.

Kelly;

I am so sorry for your loss. It's easy to justify that it's "ok becaue they're old and have had a good life" but it doesn't take away the pain you feel about losing someone you've known your whole life.

I lost my grandfather in April. I think your decision to keep your memories of her before the end was a good one. I was with my grandfather when he passed and I have trouble getting some of those last images out of my mind when I think of him, even though his passing was more peaceful than I every could have expected. I'm still not sure I made the right decision being there or not.

I hope you and your family are able to find some ways to celebrate her life even as you mourn her passing.

Kelly, I am so sorry for your loss.

My great aunt died a few weeks ago at the age of 95. My cousin, her son, kept telling us not to be sad because she had lived a great, long life.

It's hard not to be sad when someone we love dies, and getting old is scary, but it makes me remember that LIVING is what it's all about, so that when I am in my 80s I can say that I had a fantastic time getting there!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to thank you all so much for the kind words and thoughts. I really appreciate it and love BDW for providing a place to receive support from "strangers" (even though in my head I act like I know most of you lol).

The funeral was this morning and it was actually nice to see her at rest. It was sad, but seeing her go to a place next to her late husband was really comforting to me. Again, thank you all. {hugs}

I'm very sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family! I understand completely the emotions you go through when you lose someone close and when it's a long illness you are bound to react a different way then originally thought...alot of time passed in between...take care!

Kelly, I'm so sorry. Even when you expect the end it is still hard and it does force you to think about the future.

How are you doing since the funeral? Is your mom ok? My mother had a hard time after my grandmother passed away. She said she felt like an orphan.
