Too many choices...

Hey,

We have chosen a date, 6/26/10...and that's it. We go back and forth about whether we should have a traditional wedding in my home town, or if we should buck tradition and go away. I don't care either way. I would prefer to have a court house wedding and take a long, long, long honeymoon. However, my baby wants to see me walk down the aisle. And, he is concerned about the potential cost for our guests if we chose a dw. So, how do I convince him that we should just go away? I don't particularly want to have a reception at home if we did decide to go away, but I would consider it. I'm much more excited about the marriage than the wedding, but I'm finding out that it's a big deal to him. Any and all advice is welcomed. Thanks!

i say go away! ...there is definitely room for concern when it comes to the costs for guests (i would say on average for a 4 or 5 night stay, with flight, hotel and spending $$$, you're looking at anywhere between $800-$1,500+ per person...that's mexico, btw) all depends on how much digging you do, how many deals you find. remember that you would be selling your wedding as a vacation!! as far as costs for your wedding itself, could end up a little bit cheaper than a wedding at home. again, all depends on choices made in terms of venue, catering, add-ons, etc.

if you do decide to go with a dw - we're alllll here for you!! this forum is incredible and you'll be able to get answers to any questions you might have.

good luck!!

Congrats and welcome!

I think you should seriously consider a dw. If you play your cards right, you can definitely save some $$ over having a traditional wedding in your hometown. As miss di said, the amount of savings is really dependent on the choices you make as far as the venue, food, etc.

I'm taking off later this week for a dw down in Mexico, and I know that my clients are saving quite a bit on their dw from what they would have paid to have a similar type, traditional wedding.

Happy planning!

Best wishes,

Tod

We choose to do a DW because it was more cost efficient, less stress and my FI cannot take time off for the spring, summer, early fall. We also felt the weather was better guaranteed there than here and also more romantic by far. But it was the stress factor and the $$$ that made the call for us.

Hello and welcome! Congratulations on your engagement. I think you'll find the overwhelming majority here will recommend the destination wedding....(not sure why that is :-)

Whatever you do have a wonderful time planning!
