Things to do in or close to Negril

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm planning my wedding for January 2010 in Negril, Jamaica. I'm looking for information on excursions. Wondering what some of you did, if it was worth the money. What sucked? What was the most fun? How was the shopping and where did you go? I'm looking for any past experiences that you had, good or bad. We have a lot of first time travellers, so I want them to have great experiences.

Ricks Cafe - I think it was 15.00 you have to pay for drinks and food. Entertainment was good, and of course clif jumping if you are into that. Sunsets were nice to.

YS Falls - we never did but heard it is nice.

MayField Falls - we did, nice but not that nice. Dont know how much I think 15.00 to get in we went with a local.

Shopping - They took us to negril dute free sucked I think 10.00. Try to go to the flee markets.

Just got back from my wedding in Negril. Here are some of the things we (or our guests) did:

1. renting jet-skis on the Negril beach - this was fun, as I have never before had the chance to actually drive a jetski, but we got cheated out of our time. There's a guy nicknamed Tony Montana that hangs around Margaritaville, and we paid him about $40 to jet-ski for 1/2 hour. They called us back in after only 15 minutes...we had proof with the time stamps on the camera, but didn't get money back or more time on the jet-ski.

2. renting a scooter to jet around the west end - this was most excellent. Saves money on cabs, and you really haven't lived until you zipped around behind your husband on the left side of the road, honking like your life depends on it, after dark and in a foreign country.

3. Zipline - we didn't get a chance to do this, but we had 14 guests take a trip to do it. They seemed to have a blast, and the pictures are pretty fun.

4. YS Falls - This was absolutely gorgeous. The drive to the falls takes you through the countryside to see 'real' Jamaica. And the falls ($18/person) were stunningly beautiful. We definitely felt like we were in the rainforest/jungle, and they had a really nice park to go with the falls.

5. Appleton Rum Factory tour - This was also a good time, especially for my husband. A little expensive, but they have open tasting at the end of the tour. The peacocks on the grounds are gorgeous.

Let me know if you have any questions about the activities!

chickadee024 - did your guests tell you about how much the zipline cost them? who did they do it with? i'm also interested in knowing the cost of renting the scooter (and the length for the rental) and the cost for visiting the Appleton Rum Factory.
thanks!
