Calling all *Curvacious* women!!

I tried to do a search to find a similar thread but came up empty handed. I thought I would start a thread for us, beautiful, curvacious ladies! cheer2.gifSometimes we go through different things compared to our skinnier friends and I thought this could be a great place to chat and help each other out. We could talk wedding things, or anything else that comes to mind.

So I'll start...Where do you shop to buy clothes? Here in Canada, we have Penningtons & Addition-Elle who both carry a line called MXM. It's a younger line of clothes and I love all their stuff!! Just because I'm fat, doesn't mean I have to dress like an old lady!! lol I also like to buy stuff at Wal-Mart, but sometimes I find their clothes cheaply made. I also ADORE Old Navy! In Canada (well at least not around here), they don't carry the plus size clothes. I wish they did because I think I would be able to wear more of their clothes. Other stores that carry plus size, Zellers, Sears, Reitmans, Laura Plus. Even with all those stores, sometimes there's not enough selection. I love clothes, we need more stores!!!!!!!!

For all you ladies that live in the United States or elsewhere, what kind of clothing stores do you have?

Hey cool thread! I don't know if I'm allowed to post here since I guess I'm not officially plus-sized but I am a lot bigger than most girls my height (although I did lose 20 lbs last year, go me I guess haha). I find it really difficult to find clothes that fit me properly still. Since losing weight, my boobs got smaller but my legs and butt became more toned and added a lot more muscle so I still have to wear larger pant sizes on the bottom. I have to buy large tops still because my gut is stubborn. My favorite stores are Old Navy, Jacob Connexion and Smart Set...for work clothes anyway. :)

I am borderline plus size, so I get the advantage of shopping at both plus stores and regular size stores, since they plus stores start at size 12 and I'm a 14/16. Lane Bryant is awesome because they have really nice bras. You know....not plain grandma ones, or ones that your boobs spill out the middle when you bend over. I hate how bras are made for smaller people. They NEVER fit right! Also, definitely check out Torrid. They are owned by Hot Topic, and they carry more "edgy" stuff.

I'm the same as Estella. The bad part is I'm only 5ft tall!! You know how hard it is to find bigger petite sizes?!

I tend to luck out most in Kohls, Target (shirts mainly), and Sears. I also shop alot for tops in Marshalls. Oh let me not forget NY&Co. I love the fact most of there dress pants come in petite sizes.

Ugh, are any of you girls short-waisted by any chance? I am and it is the bane of my existence, shirts always fit strange because of this and I basically look like I have no torso so I'm always trying to find clothes that will give me the "illusion" of having a long body. Short body, long legs....sigh, why can't I have both? I guess I'm borderline plus too, I can wear anything from size 8 to 12, it's so crazy!

Hmmmm....I'm not sure. What about an empire waist. It will fit up on the bust area, then because it floats away from the body you won't need to worry about fit in the rest of the torso.

I feel your pain on the no torso thing. I'm 5'4" and am all legs, no upper body and no neck! I have gained about 60 pounds over the past few years which makes me ill to think about it, and although I lost some weight for the wedding I ended up gaining most of it back. I'm usually a 16 in pants and a M-XL in tops, just depends on the type and where I'm shopping. We just moved to AZ and most stores only carry up to a size 14 so if I ever want to buy clothes here I am going to have to get down to my wedding weight. My husband was getting his haircut the other day and they were talking about the differences between AZ and Chicago and the stylist said that people here are very concerned about the way they look here and they need to be skinny where as people in Chicago don't seem to care. She was lucky I was not there because I probably would've knocked her out. I typically shop at NY&Co. or Old Navy, I have found some cute things at Target and Macy's. We had Torrid back home, but I haven't seen one here probably because the sizes are too big according to the hairstylist. They did have cute stuff, but I never found anything that fit me right. The bottom of a dress would fit, but the top would be huge. My bustier friends have bought really cute dresses from there.

We don't have torrid out here either.

I think I would have knocked the hair dresser out also!! I really wanted to drop weight before the wedding, I kept procrastinating. Once the holidays hit, I decided against stressing myself out. I'm one that as soon as I stress I gain weight. I'm glad I decided against it.

Maybe once I work a real day job instead of my horrid nights I'll be able to drop my weight again. Please make the economy better someone!!!

Estella - Yeah, I find empire-waisted shirts and dresses to be extremely flattering and forgiving on my awkwardly shaped body. :) Thanks for posting this, it is a great tip for all girls with a similar problem.

Michelle - I hear ya! I'm 5.5" and I'm all leg with no torso and no neck. I get so damn frustrated some days because all the weight that I gain goes to the worst spots imaginable and makes me seem even bigger in the gut since I have no room there to stretch it over (if that makes any sense lol it does to me). Ha, if someone said that near me, I would probably get in to a fight with them too. Not everyone needs to be a 00 to be happy (no offense to anyone that is 00). I think if you are comfortable and confident in your own skin then that's all that matters.

P.S. Post more Michelle, I miss reading your posts! :)
