I should also add that my dress has detailing at the bottom that I want to show off. Since I am definitely wearing heels during the reception, I need to wear them at the ceremony too so the dress will look its best (and me!). If your dress doesn't have detailing at the bottom it would be easier to get away with having it hemmed for heels but then not wearing them for the ceremony, although I agree it looks a little frumpier. They also have heel "wideners" you can buy that are clear plastic pieces that slip onto your heel to make them bigger - makes them easier to walk in but would also make it less likely they would go through the mat if you didn't want to wear a wedge. You could take the wideners off during after the ceremony (or leave them on since they are clear).

I like the idea of maybe a wedge though, although I haven't seen any that are "formal" - I'll have to look!

OH - I'm going to do a blog on this (I promise I promise) but one of my brides had a beautiful ring anklets she wore with her dress on the beach and then changed into heels for the reception. She looked every inch a beautiful elegant bride and I LOVED it - just beautiful! Here's an example: http://jewelrystalker.com/wp-content...gbluepearl.gif

I agree...I always pictured wearing some amazing heels or wedges. I think I'll be fine with the wedges since they put some type of rug down. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

I just wanted to update all you guys on how the whole shoe situation turned out. I wore 2 1/2 inch wedges and never had to even look down they were so comfy and not a bit wobbly on the woven mat. Most of my bridesmaids wore heels since they felt frumpy in flats. One girl even wore 4 inch spiky ones!!! Needless to say, no one fell but they were looking down a lot just to be on the safe side. Plus, when they got to the front there was no mat so everyone sank in the sand!! :-)
