Jetsbride.... Beautiful Bride in Calgary carries some great DW dresses. Check them out. You won't be disappointed. I bought my dress there. It was the first place I checked because it was the only place that carried the dress I wanted. They are really good and give ZERO pressure. They're so good in fact that I bought 2 dresses from them!

I to got my dress from Beautiful Bride here in Calgary! I love their sales staff! They went out of their way to honor an original price of the gown I fell in love with if I could buy it off the rack and I did!!! So I would also HIGHLY recommend them to check out... they do have some great DW dresses... mine isn't just a plain destination one its all lacy and mermaid style... I love it!!!

Well I found these STD's I liked on Wedding Invitations, Bridal Shower Invitations & Announcements by Wedding Paper Divas but they were $1.30 each which seemed like a rip off to me for a little dinky piece of paper...so I took the background and put it on Microsoft Publisher, added my own words, and uploaded onto www.vistaprint.com - great decision! They were 20 cents each and they looked really nice - I put them on the linen paper which made them look even better.

What did you end up doing for yours?

I too am a November 2009 Bride! I've been super stressed trying to get all the initial stuff done, but I think I'm on track.

Here's what's been done so far:

Venue selected/Contract signed

BMs + GMs asked and accepted

STDs order (will go out in the mail tomorrow)

Website up and running

Flights booked

Dress scouting trip booked

Colors selected

Flowers selected

Budget finalized

Still to be done:

Register (FI is dragging his feet)

Buy Dress

Select BM attire

Ring shopping (my favorite)

Reception details

OOTs and other DIYs

Help Groom with attire (he'll need it)

and a lot more but that can't be tackled yet

My biggest concern right now is how the economy will effect my guests. In the month since I booked my venue, it has really been going downhill with all these layoffs. As far as I know, everyone invited is still doing okay, but people are scared right now to spend money.

But trying to stay positive and I'm getting so excited. I wish it wasn't 9 months away. I'm trying to NOT talk about my planning when I see people because they are probably so not wanting to hear about it all the time...but it's hard. :)

Jenni- We are wedding date twins !

That is a great attitude. I have been concerned also about the economy. I think it will reduce the number of guests, but I just remind myself that not everyone can make it and I knew this when I choose to have a DW. It is now just that even less will make it.

I found a great dress (but not your typical wedding dress) after looking for weeks online...then once I found it I googled to see if any of the shops here in Calgary carried the designer, and since only one did, and she had the exact dress in my size to try on (total fluke!) I got really lucky and got it for half price in her sample sale (only $800!!!!) It's a Nicole Miller crinkled taffeta gown...you can find them online.

So I have put out the message to all our invited guests that they need to book with their deposit by the end of the month or there is a chance our group pricing might increase (something to do with the Canadian dollar being in the crapper right now)...which is a good thing for me so I have a better idea on how many people to expect so I can start working on OOT bags and all that stuff.

Get this...my FI's brother is getting married in July, and I had a "thing" with his fiance a few months ago (a long story but basically after me & my FI decided on a DW, she changed her mind from a local wedding to a DW...and she wanted to have it 7 months before ours! I had it out with her over that! In the end she's now having it fairly local after a lot of pressure from multiple sources)...anyway, I just found out that she is so mad at me over this that she is not inviting me to their wedding and she skipped the family Christmas because she doesn't want to see me! What a beeatch! I could care less about her having a hate-on for me, but I feel so bad about my FI's mom...she's going to be so upset! She is SO excited both her boys are getting married this year (finally...they're 40 and 37 yrs!!!) and this is going to kill her!

My FI asked me if I would be willing to extend an olive branch, but I'm not sure what to do...I want to because of the family, but I don't want to because I feel its like I'd be rewarding bad behaviour! And I don't feel badly about how I reacted to her at all! (I admit I could have handled it differently but hindsight is 20/20 and you don't mess with a bride-to-be and her wedding plans!).

What to do, what to do...I'm just happy with the progress in my own plans...286 days to go!!!
Ugh - this situation sounds like no fun during a time when you should be enjoying your engagement (and your soon to be sister-in-law hers). As a total outsider, I would tend to agree with your FI. In a year or two, you will probably regret not seeking peace (not attending the wedding, being part of your "new" family's riff, etc). I don't think you will regret offering an olive branch if it means you and your FI can enjoy your engagement, wedding and years to come with some family peace.

It's tough to be the bigger person, but that is what it likely will take in this situation. Wouldn't you rather it be you? :)
