So yesterday I signed up on Facebook for the very first time due to all my friends bugging me about getting on there. The look is quite a bit different to MySpace but what disappointed me the most was the privacy settings. I discovered that you really can't block your friends list, even if you designate it to Friends Only. I was able to go through my high school graduating class and see everyone's friends and that was a big turn off. Am I off my rocker here or is this correct?

Facebook has really stepped up their privacy recently. I have been on it since college, so when all of my colleagues just started joining, I decided that I needed some privacy from them (not that I do things online that I wouldn't want them to see - but I don't want my friends to make inside jokes on my wall that may seem inappropriate to the GM of my organization, if you know what I mean).

You can go through and set things that you don't want specific people to see, like your pictures, wall, status updates - pretty much everything.

I like facebook better than myspace because it seems easier to navigate and safer, but it is odd to me to hear all the talk about it now, when I have been on it for like 5 years now! wink.gif

Good luck.

I have blocked people from being able to see my friends list...if you go in to the privacy settings > profile, there is a drop down menu beside "friends" and you can select your secuirty options from there. I have mine set to only friends can see my friends list and I blocked one person from seeing it altogether. This should work, I tested it with my FI's account first just to make sure it did. I hope this helps!

you can totally block people - you need to explore the settings more!

I want to apologize if the little danasoft penguin on my signature scared anyone. All it was doing was recording your IP address as your computer loaded the image and then displayed your information back to you. I was in no way recording, tracking or stalking any of your IP addresses or information, it was just something you saw. It was originally meant as a crude joke but I can see how some of you would have been thrown off by it. So again, I apologize if that alarmed anyone.

You can't block other from viewing your friends list though. I went onto my high school grad class and I could view everyone's friends list even though I couldn't view some of their profiles.

Thank you for removing your siggy...

Regarding the friends profile thing, you can view it on your friends perhaps because they haven't changed the privacy settings. Like you changed it so when someone finds you, they can't view your friends list, but other people probably have not made that same change.
