I still can't feel my middle toes after stumbling around in boots on Sat. night.

Saturday night we had to work a show at our art gallery. I wasn't sure that I'd be well enough to attend, but at the last minute decided it was too cool to miss (our sculptor was going to be sculpting a nude model live!) so I threw on what I had - a new, cute, long black sweater from Express, some black tights, and some big black boots. LOVE the boots, but after 4 hours on concrete floors ANYTHING will start to kill your back/legs/feet. Well, after that we went out. The first place we just sat and had wine with my Dad & his new gf. Unfortunately then I wanted to go play some pool or arcade games (don't know where that came from - lol) so we went to Lee Harvey's, where you have to walk through all of this up and down gravel/dirt mixture to get to (half the bar is outdoors).

I woke up Sunday morning and realized I couldn't feel my middle toes. Strange sensation. I have one really big toe on both of my feet and then small toes for the rest, so my feet struggle sometimes. OH I think I forgot to mention (at this point I had probably had 1 too many glasses of wine cheesy.gif) that on the way back to the car I could hardly walk - not due to the wine overload, but because my feet were killing me! I had to hang onto Martin to walk. He walks with big strides so that was a little tough. I thought I had sprained my ankles at one point because my feet kept buckling to the sides.

I figured it would go away but I still can't feel them (it's like the 2nd & 3rd toes on both feet). Doesn't hurt, I just can't feel them so it feels odd when I walk. The muscles around my ankles are super sore but even that doesn't feel like anything is "hurt, hurt" KWIM?

Does that make sense??

Martin thinks I may have done some damage, but I'm thinking (or hoping rather!) that it's just something that will pass on its own. Actually I really thought they would be back to normal by now, but they're not.

I've spent soooo much money in medical bills for other things that I really don't want to go see a doc unless it's something that just can't be treated at home or with time. No insurance, and this damn US health care system just stinks! smile35.gif I do have a chiropractor that I could go see for $50, but again - I really want to make sure (if possible) that I only go if it's something that could actually be helped. You know how when you go in with a sprain or whatever, they just tell you to put your leg up, ice it and take Motrin? Yeah, don't need to pay someone $50-100 to tell me that again! cheesy.gif If it will heal on its own, then that would be great!!!

Any thoughts?

Hey jaime! I'm not a doctor, but I do know shoes and boots very well and I know what they can do to your feet (I've worked for a italian shoe retailer for 6 yrs, and spend most of the time working 10 hrs/ day on concrete floors in dress shoes). I hope your toes feel something soon, but you should give it some time. If anything's swollen like your feet or ankles, alternate ice & heat every 15 minutes. Doctors never seem to do much for nerve problems in your feet, they often recommend staying out of high heels and then make you buy custom orthodics that insurance won't pay for that cost hundreds of dollars. And make sure you're not wearing your shoes too small- you can always add some extra cushioning to make them more comfortable if you buy 1/2 a size bigger- especially in boots. Anyway, I'd give it a few days. My FH lost feeling in his pinky finger for like, 2 weeks, but it eventually came back.

That doesn't sound good Jamie! I'm not a medical expert. Maybe play the wait-and-see game? I hate spending $20 for a co-pay for a doc to tell me to rest and take iburpofen!

I bought new running shoes this weekend and apparently they were tied too tight and my feet were numb by the end of the run. Matt was a little mad at me for not saying something. He said we could have stopped for that :) Anyway, they were fine right after that.

Make sure you wear comfortable shoes until you feel better!

Thanks Ebbica :)

Oh and btw I just realized that those are the exact same boots that I have on in my siggy pic! LOL

Here's a larger version so you can see the boots more clearly:

Actually, that's pretty much the outfit I had on except it was a different black sweater with a scoop neckline wink.gif

My feet go numb like that too - it's just never lasted like this.

I have my comfy, cozy house slippers on now wink.gif

That happened to me too! I went to the club one night with these high heels on which I absolutely adore. I was on my feet for hours, but the time I got home I couldn't feel my 3rd and 4th toe!! It felt like they were numb and they had this weird sensation it went away after about 2-3 days. I never wore those shoes again for that long. I think if it's still feels like that for another day or 2 you should go see a doctor. I hope you feel better and you don't have any problems.

I had a pair of high heel sandals that had a thong strap. They always made my 2nd toe go numb, never failed.

I also had someone jump off a chair at a concert and land on my left foot (while I was wearing open high heels). That happened over a year ago and I still have numbness on the top of my foot. I spent a lot of money on nerve therapy and got painful shots and what-not, but nothing worked. I guess as long as my foot is still working, I will be fine.

I would give it a little while longer, as long as it isn't keeping you from walking or it is hurting you. Good luck!

My toes go numb at the gym sometimes... Sucks that you just cant go see your Doc when you're concerned about something. Guess I take that for granted sometimes... I wouldn't worry too too much about it unless the toes get painful, turn white or worse turn black!
