1st Fitting...Estimate...$625 - $775!!!! Yikes!

So, I had my first dress fitting this morning. All I can say is HOLY COW!

I apparently picked the most expensive alterations place is the country.

The quote came in at $400 - 450 to take in the bodice 3/8" tapered through the hips to 1" and $150-200 for a hem and $75-125 for the bustle.

I almost fell over. I told the lady the alterations were more expensive than my dress. She basically encouraged me to go somewhere else for the alterations. She even gave me her cell phone number to call her after consulting with other seamstresses to see which one of the other people I should take the dress to based on what they tell me needs to be done.

Just had to vent a little. I was almost in tears on the way to work after my fitting.

But, I feel better now and I have a new task on my to do list.......to find a new seamstress!

If anyone can share their alterations costs, it would be helpful. Thank you!!

What?!? That is insane. My dress didn't need alterations, but that seems super expensive. I wouldn't have thought it would be that expensive.

My friend brought a wedding dress from a bridal store and alterations were free. Did you not buy your dress from a store? I guess someone else would know better than me about the cost, but really, that seems a bit high!

Yes, that is what I am thinking and the hem is only like 1/2" shorter....Maybe I'll just find higher shoes! I really think this place I went to is just over priced.

HOLLY CRAP Jess,, that is insane.. I paid 150.00 extra to have my dress made hollow hem. And they told me "most" of their alterations were $250.00, but they won't know for sure until my first fitting (on the 3rd) So I will let you know when I talk to them. But I'm having the same stuff done to my dress are you are to yours. OMG if that's what they tell me, I will fall over.

Oh my god that is insane!!!! You have to find a seamstress you can trust that doesn't work at a bridal salon maybe and can do just as good of a job for you!!! Wow that is crazy!!

They are just making money off of you because you didn't buy your dress from them!!

Wow that's a bargin compared to what they quoted me.... $1,000 for alterations on a Lazaro gown that was $4,350..... needless to say I'm going to just get a good seamstress and get mine custom made because these prices are crazy.

You're definalty on the right track - get a good seamstress, it shouldn't be that expensive.
