Going to NYC tomorrow! Any "must-do's?"

Hey NYC girls (and anyone else I guess!)

We're heading to NYC tomorrow morning for 3 nights - I'm so excited, NYC is one of my favourite cities. We're staying in the lower east side and will probably spend most of our time in Soho/West Village - any ideas of places we should go? Restaurants or places to go out at night? It's always better to get info from "locals" as we usually don't like doing the touristy things. I should mention I've been twice before so I've already done the Times Square thing :) The only thing we have planned is a Yankee game so we have lots of time to kill!

Any ideas??

That should be a great time, how exciting!!! I go there sometimes, but not enough to know the "hot spots". My brothers GF grew up there so I could ask her if you wanted. I dunno whats good or anything, howeverrrrr I do know that the hot roasted peanuts they sell on the corners are to die for! So try them, hahaha. Not much help, sorry! But have fun!

I would recommend dessert at Serendipity b/c I just love their dessert. There is this great restaurant in SOHO called "Bread". They have the best tomato soup! If you like italian food you should def check it out, it is awesome. You can also go have brunch at Cipriani's that is always a good time and get Bellini's. Or you can have brunch at Pastis.

Since you already saw all the touristy things I would say just enjoy eating. LOL. New Yorkers love their food. Or if you did want to see something you could go see the "Walking with Dinosaurs" exhibition in Madison Square Garden. It runs from July 30- August 3. It is supposed to be awesome, they have real life looking dinosaurs.

Also there is that cadaver exhibit in South Street Seaport called "Bodies the Exhibition". People seem to really love that.

Both of these events are not touristy things they are things that NYers go see so maybe you'd like to check one of them out.

Obviously you should shop till you drop b/c there are tons of stores especially in SOHO. And SOHO has those great little vendors on the street that sell cool jewlery and sunglasses.

As far as nightlife goes some of the "good" clubs are kind of hard to get into but you can still go somewhere nice like the Hudson Hotel or the Rooftop of the Empire Hotel.

Hope you have fun!

I forgot to mention why not see a Broadway play? Ashley Parker Angel (remember O-Town) and Aubrey O'Day (from Danity Kane) are starring in Hairspray right now. And Mario Lopez is also starring in "Chorus Line". Wicked, Jersey Boys, and Spamalot are amazing shows and def worth checking out.

There's also a really cool rooftop bar with beautiful views of the city called 230 5th (230 Fifth Rooftop Garden). A little pricey, but most of NYC is. If you want to go to a nice place in Central Park, there's a restaurant called the Boat House. I've never been, but I've only heard great things. Here's a website that has lists of all sorts of things to do, go, eat, etc... NYC Events, Activities & Things to Do - Time Out New York

Wow thanks everyone! This is soooo good.

1) I LOVE Italian so I'm definitely going to check out both of those places...the one with the Tomato Soup AND the one with the fettucine, haha.

2) I haven't been to the MoMA, but I heard you can kill like 5 hours there? I think if it rains this is at the top of our to-do list.

3) I haven't seen a broadway show in NYC and I really want to. I'm going to try to convince FI to see Wicked with me on Sunday night.

4) I read somewhere about the rooftop of the Empire Hotel...I might have to check that out again...

Thanks for everything so far! Keep the ideas coming!

If you want to star watch you can have dinner at Serafina's (there are tons of locations but people go to all of them) and the food is yummy. On any given day you can see A-Rod and the Princess of some country there.

You can also have lunch at Da Silvano or the more affordable Bar Pitti right next door. A lot of celebrities lunch there b/c they will be spotted by papparazzi. Its like NYC's equivalant of the Ivy.

Also if you just walk around the Village you are more likely than not to spot some celebrities. Most of them live there and are always walking around and running their errands.

Do you like sneakers? There are great sneaker stores in SOHO and the village that sell sneakers you can't get anywhere else.

For nightclubs I would recommend Mansion of Tenjune. If you get there earlier then you should have no problem getting in.

A couple of other good places to have dinner...Tao, Buddha Bar, Budakon, Koi, these are all Japanese places but they are usually bumping and you can stay there after dinner for drinks and dancing.
