Eating Organic...anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hey girls just wondering if anyone eats organic food. My hubby and I recently decided to start eating organic after I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. We thought elimatinating as many chemicals and pesticides from our food would be a good thing

If anyone else is interest in this topic I would love to share/hear any info and maybe trade some reciepts!

FI and I try to as much as possible. I have IBS and have to be careful w/ what I eat.

Here in Seattle there are a few organic produce delivery companies available. We go with one called Spud.com (formally Pioneer Organics). Itâ€s delivered bi-weekly and is more than enough for the 2 of us (we are big fruit and veggie eaters). They have a bunch of different choices and you can even customize what you get. I would see if there is a company like this near you. I know there is more than one choice here in Seattle and my brother uses a different one in San Francisco.

Each summer we also plant our own veggie garden. Instead of pesticides we breed Praying Mantis and have the eggs hatch in the garden. Normally they take care of all the bugs…but this year has been so cold that the eggs havenâ€t hatched yet and we are seeing some of our pepper and strawberry plants get attacked. Hopefully they will hatch soon. I just love going to the garden and picking the veggies for dinner. It puts me in such a happy mood during the summer.

Fi and I try to. It is so hard to find organic food in the small town we live in though. We buy organic eggs and chicken. Which is so expensive. Organic ketchup hmmm I am trying to think of more stuff. I do buy a lot when i am up in the city.

At home we almost eat 100% organic. We go out to eat a lot though and there are no organic restaurants in our area. We are pretty lucky that we have a few grocery stores that have tons of organic stuff - milk, eggs, chicken, salmon, most fruits and veggies, spaghetti sauce, pasta, cereal, cheese, butter, canned and frozen veggies and berries, pancake mix.... I feel a lot better when I eat it because I know there aren't tons of chemicals. I also go to the Farmers Market in town and they have some locally grown organic produce, which is delicious!!

I too have somewhat of a restricted diet b/c of a combo of my IBS and celiac. I find it so easy to find only because I love in a large city. But I think as it gets more popular its getting so much easier to find. For me at least (sorry Kat, just come down and visit me then you can go on an organic shopping spree!)

Me and my FI have been eating a lot more soy lately. To be honest I was always too scared to try it..Stupid of me, because I LOVE IT! I will be honest, we don't eat 100% organic but slowly we are making the swich over. We definetely want our future kids to eat all organic. Awesome you decided to!
