Lucy that sucks I can't imagine not being able to book time off for your wedding, can you call in sick and ask your doctor to give you a note because of your back problems?

Oh, off topic did you ever get your dragonfly tat done, I am curious to see it?

I agree with Alyssa put it in writing. A wedding is a life changing event and should rank pretty high for reasons to need off. I think since it's your wedding and your doing it without pay, you should be able to take the days off. did you always have doctor notes for the days you needed off for that?

Holy crap! Same thing almost happened with Chris, as holidays are booked at his work by senority. He basically told them that this is his LIFE we are talking about and he was not going to be at his WORK for those 2 weeks so they'd have to deal with it.

Then he wrote his request a little less harshly and they approved it.

:P

I frickin hate when you give so much of your time to work and they STILL want to be in control of the times you are not there (ie the rest of your life).

It's a sad state of affairs sad.gif

Thank you all so much. Ok this is what I put in writing to my Deputy Chief (I am a police officer so it may read a little military or whatever) :

Sir,

I am sure it is obvious I am getting very low on time off. Since I have been required to take Village holidays (memorial day, Fouth of July and now also the third of July) and holidays for medical procedures because of a lack of sick time I am getting even lower on time then I had ever imagined. As I had told you many months ago I am trying to save my time because I am getting married in Cancun in November (leaving November 3 and returning November 13). Sonia has told me that being allowed to take time off without pay is up to the administration here at the department. So I am sending this email in anticipation of not having the time to take off when November arrives. I have offered to work the Fourth of July weekend in order to save time. I am willing to save time by working weekends or whatever I need to do if that is an option. But if that is not possible then I am requesting permission to take the time off without pay that I need to make up for the time I don't have for my wedding. Thank you in advance.

Respectfully Submitted,

Oh, wow. I am sorry to hear this.

They have known for awhile now that you are getting married, right?

I would just explain to them that you have to be in Mexico a couple of days before, as required by the country, in order to make it legal. I think you will be fine, honestly, but can understand your stress.

If they still don't budge, worse case scenario, maybe you can do your legal wedding in th states, and then do the symbolic one in Mexico, like a lot of us do. (I am also doing this) and we will only arrive 2 days before the big day.

Good luck & keep us posted!

Lucy, I changed your email a little. I thought it was a little to wordy and not to the point.

What do you think of this?

Sir,

I am requesting permission to take time off without pay for my wedding. I will be leaving for my wedding on November 3, 2008 returning November 13, 2008.

Due to medical procedures my vacation time is quickly depleting. I am willing to work holidays, such as the Fourth of July in order to accrue additional vacation time.
