The day after he was acting very weird, my sister took him back to the hospital and checked him in. He was there about 2 weeks and fully recovered. Apparently he was having a reaction to a prescription medicine he was taking and the doctors gave him small dosages of it to stop the seizures. Once that happened he was fine. I hope your aunt recovers soon, it seems very odd she got sent home. Does she have an appt. with the neurologist yet?
Her daughter was calling to make an appointment this morning. I'm not sure if they have made one yet.

So your BIL was having like a withdrawl from a medication? I had an episode similar but I wasn't seizing. I was having misfires of neurons- basically every time i moved it felt like I was being electrocuted. I had to be slowly wheened off the med because my body was having withdrawls. Very weird.

I'm happy to hear that your BIL was just fine. I just can't believe they sent her home because she just didn't have convulsions once. She had them so often that they had a hard time doing tests on her.

rachel, i havent read the whole thread but i am so sorry your family is going through this. please keep us updated on the progress -- your aunt needs to be receiving excellent medical attention. is it possible for her to go to a different hospital for observation while she waits to see a specialist?

Rachel I used to work for a neurological group so this to me is unacceptable. The doctor I worked for would have had her hospitalized immediately and kept under observations.

Just b/c she never had a seizure before doesn't mean she can't just get them now. That happens to a lot of people. Its like how all of a sudden you wake up one day and are lactose intolerant.

Sometimes seizures are caused by different types of medications and/or withdrawals. Is she taking anything for any other condition? She needs to make sure disclose all that info to the neurologist she sees.

Sometimes seizures are caused by tumors but if she had something like that they would have picked it up on the MRI (well assuming these stupid hospital people know how to read an MRI, b/c as Jason will tell you sometimes doctors make mistakes)

I hope she got an appointment today. Any new updates?

I hope that your aunt gets better. Hopefully this was just do to an adverse reaction to a medication or something.

I will be sending her good vibes and sending you big hugs!

Rachel, this is just awful, I am so incredibly sorry. She should not have been sent home. I hope she finds a good Dr. who will take in her for observation. Freaking insurance companies I swear they have changed medicine and the way dr's practice.

I know she was placed on a new medication a few weeks ago and was experiencing problems with it. Her dr adviced she stop taking it immediately and she was scheduled for a check up this week. Her primary dr feels that it could be related so I guess we shall see.

I need to call my cousin since I'm not getting updated fast enough. We have too many people in the family so I must not be at the top of the pecking order. LOL

They took all the medication she was on to the hospital though so I dunno. They weren't concerned that it was drug related.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I was hoping someone would have some info that would put my mind to ease- the internet just isn't providing enough answers! I find much more information here! Thanks again! I'll keep you all posted as well.

Wow, that seems very irresponsible to discharge someone with unexplained & ongoing seizures. I'm sorry about this Rachel. It sounds like your family is on it & will get her in to see an appropriate doc...but still, talk about a serious potential liability on the hospital's part. I don't get that.

My best vibes for your aunt's recovery.
