MY MAIN PRIORITY RIGHT NOW IS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING TO BE THE BEST/MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO GET MARRIED ON THE RESORT BY A CATHOLIC PRIEST (meaning we don't have to leave the resort to attend a church, etc.) I HAVE ASKED MY PARISH PRIEST HERE AT HOME IF HE WILL BE ABLE TO TRAVEL WITH US & MARRY US, BUT HE CAN'T AS HE IS THE ONLY PRIEST AT THE CHURCH & CANNOT LEAVE.

I AM THINKING OF HAVING THE WEDDING AT EITHER MOON PALACE OR AT DREAMS CANCUN. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ? HAS ANYONE HAD A CATHOLIC CEREMONY AT DREAMS ? I KNOW MOON PALACE HAS A CATHOLIC CHAPEL (GAZEBO) ON THE RESORT (looking over the water) BUT MY TA SAID THAT MOON PALACE IS A REALLY BIG RESORT & THAT DREAMS IS SMALLER (more intimate) RESORT FOR THE WEDDING PARTY. NOT SURE...ANY SUGGESTIONS? INFO?

hate to burst your bubble but you are going to have a very difficult time finding any catholic priest willing to do your marriage outside of a church.

the only reason my ceremony with my guests is on the beach, is because technically it is a vow renewal ceremony, and we have to go to the church in town earlier in the morning to have our priest do the real deal there. we are repeating all the pomp & circimstance for our guests on the beach so the will be none the wiser.

No, I completely understand that...I know a priest won't do a wedding outside of the church but Moon Palace has a Catholic "chapel" with a Catholic priest that will do the Catholic ceremony & the chapel is like a Catholic decorated gazebo (pretty much). But I was wondering if Dreams Cancun had anything like that, & if they don't, maybe somebody knows if the Catholic church is nearby the Dreams resort so that its not a big project to get to the church & back for the dinner??

ahhhh i see. i dont think dreams cancun has that, but you should check in with TA Jill, shes a dreams cancun specialist and got married there recently! i know what you mean about everything being such a big project between the church and the hotel, it took us forever to figure out how to do it so it wouldnt cost us a ton extra to transport guests back and forth. good luck!

  • 4 weeks later...

I am doing the run around on the day of my wedding in order to have a catholic ceremony! It will stink but it will satisfy my parents who are the ones really wanting me to do it... I will have a catholic wedding in the morning and then a beach symbolic or spiritual (non legal ceremony) in the evening. I figured this way we would all be happy!

I know Dreams Tulum has a chapel onsite but I am not sure about the resort in cancun. The church I will be getting married at is in playa del carmen. It's Iglesia Nuestra Senora del Carmen. If you need contact info let me know ok.

Hi,

I'm getting married at the Nuestra Senora del Carmen as well and having the reception at the Barcelo. I know that if I wanted to have the Catholic ceremony at the Barcelo, instead of the church, my WC was going to coordinate with the priest so that he would come to the resort and marry us there. So maybe speak with your WC and see if the priest is willing to come to Dreams to do the ceremony.

You CAN have a catholic ceremony at Moon Palace. We actually flew our priest down but we met with the priest at the Moon Palace to finalize our documents as well. I believe it is $800 for the catholic wedding and the gazebo is absolutely beautiful. We didn't have a full mass (no communion) and I honestly don't know if they allow that. The MP is huge but we never had any problem - we would run into everyone at the pool all the time. It was kind of nice too b/c we were able to have some alone time. We just met up with everyone for dinner.

Sounds good! I have tons of info. I struggled trying to figure out requirements for a catholic ceremony down in mexico and finally talked to the secretaries at the rectory down there and got the info I needed. Like I said I have email addresses and phone numbers and street address. I also have a list of like two other churches down there... as a matter of fact... the following link shows some photos of some churches... let me know if you guys can see this or not ok. Good luck and Please contact me if you need info. All churches require the necessary documents at least 2-3 months prior to the wedding, keep that in mind ok!
