I agree with pryzeless-- there have been so many posts recently about the outside policy that Karisma is trying to enforce with outside vendors, specifically photographers. We have posted multiple complaints, as well as a link where brides can file a complaint with Mexico's version of a "better business bureau". One of the EDR bride's travel agent, had a meeting last week with the owner of EDR and the owner of Karisma and the main priority of the meeting was to discuss this policy. It would be difficult to be on this forum and not be aware of the policy and how you can "fight" the policy.

From what I've read on this forum, EDR isn't the only resort to have a policy for outside photographers, though EDR definitely seems to have the most extreme policy. There are many brides on this forum that are getting married at EDR this year, and are really really excited about it!!

I agree that this sticky is a little harsh. Maybe it could be retitled/regrouped- and just have all the resorts that have outside vendor policie and what those policies are. That way brides can be informed about the resorts and their policies and make their own decisions from there.

You can bring outside photographers but for a fee. The policy change is now a $500 fee plus a three night stay. They are also requesting the appropriate documentation to comply with Mexican law. As of yet, already booked brides with some prior communication about the previous policy have been working around it.

I am not saying don't tell future brides about this policy, I think we do need to ban together to change it. I am not saying Tami (or anyone) has to recommend it to future brides but to say boycott it? I think full disclosure is important. My understanding EDR is not the only resort that has a policy like this. They may be the worst but not the only.

Yes, they now require $500 plus a 3 night stay.

Barcelo also has a no outside vendor policy, but I don't know the exact terms as I simply ruled out the resort after finding out I couldn't hire a local photographer for the day

I do agree that a sticky post of boycotting the resort is a little much. Why not just have it as a regular thread? It seems like normally only the most important threads are stickies. I wouldn't have thought this qualified as being something that should be a sticky.

From what I understand-if your friend had an agreement or contract in place before this policy (the new policy was announced/posted on the website in the last couple of weeks)-then the resort will honor the agreement.

Alyssa

The only hotel I know is the Bellagio in Las Vegas, you had to use their vendors.(flowers, photography, cake, etc...)

I also know that if you are having your wedding at a hotel in Maui, the beverages and food(cake) have to be provided by the hotel. The cake is not a big deal to me but at least I can choose my flowers and photographer.

I just think that is ridiculous their already making tons of money off of you and for them to charge an outside vendor fee or even now not allow it all is just plain greedy..i definately would not recommend eith one of these chains to anyone

The only way to get them to change their policy is to hurt their business and get the word out, that is all Tammy is trying to do. Tammy praises the resort, just not their policies. I personally know nothing about the resort or their policies other than what I've heard on this site, but I do belive that the only way they're going to change their policy is if they see that it's impacting their business and bottom line.

You took the words right out of my mouth, lol!

Tammy's intention of posting this was not to be hurtful to brides that are getting married at EDR, the point is as Ann said to hurt their business to get them to make changes.

As far as other resorts, there are some that have policies against outside vendors, but EDR's is very extreme in comparison. Also, EDR is an expensive resort and all of the brides getting married there are spending a pretty penny for it, everyone should at least have the option to make choices regarding their wedding and not get forced into paying these crazy fees.

I believe Moon Palace will let you have an outside vendor if they are a guest at the hotel. Luckily the photographer we want requires somewhere to stay for the night anyway, so that works out fine for us.

Good luck girls! :)
pryzeless, it is not meantful to be hurtful to EDR brides. i am just upset when i get pm's from brides asking for my help to get the resort to change their policy. their policy is one that is constantly changing...i used to book weddings their because i thought they did good weddings. at the time they allowed outside photogs as long as they were guests at the resort. if they were not they had to pay a fee to go on the resort. that was fair. the photogs paid for the 2 nights they were staying there.

now there is a 3 night minimum stay plus $500 fee. that is ridiculous!
