My fiance and I have decided to up our wedding from Feb 2009 to Thanksgiving week of this year in Riviera Maya Mexico. We are debating about when to have our at home reception. Because when we get back it will be the busy Christmas season with Xmas work parties and people travelling for Christmas' etc. Then besides the fact we are in Michigan and travel weather is so horrible Dec-Feb so we are thinking about waiting until end of March. Do you think this is o.k.?? Or does that seem to far out??

Yeah, it works best for us in a lot of ways because we are able to save up more for the reception then. Also, my mom and dad go to FL for the winter so that would be enough time for them not to have to fly again and just stop on their way back to their summer home here in MI. Besides anyone else from out of town that may have to fly in has a little time to recoup those costs too. Either way I'm thinking it's a win-win. My FI says jokingly and if we are divorced by then we can just have a divorce party. ha This will not be a Britney Spears wedding!!

I think it's fine. Particularly if you send out an STD just before or right after the wedding. That way, any of the skeptics know that its not some last-minute gift grab sort of event that you decided on just because you didn't have that many people at your wedding.

I agree you should do whatever works best for you/your guests. And it will be nice not to have the mad rush of getting another event going right after you get back.

That being said, my best friend had her AHR about 2 weeks after they got back from their wedding/honeymoon. While it was super busy for them during that time, they were so ready to do it and be done with it. They were "weddinged out" in her words. There are so many things leading up to the wedding (fittings, parties, showers etc) that coming back and doing one more thing was just a lot for them. I think if they had delayed it, they probably wouldn't have ended up doing it. It was a great time and everyone had a blast - but I think there's the off chance that 3 months later, you won't be as enthusiastic about it 'cause you're already back in the groove of "normal life" and all that.

On the other hand, maybe by then you'll have your pics back from the photog to share?! That would be cool...

oh god that's fine! we're getting married on halloween and i don't want to have party until the following summer! we both have such huge families (hense the reason for the destination wedding) that we would need the outdoor space for a party, because we would be having it at home, i'm spending another penny on something big.....hahaha!

Yes, I was thinking that part would be cool too because most people won't be able to make the wedding so being able to have pictures of it may make them feel more of a part of it and it will be nice to share that with people who wouldn't normally be around to share that. But yes, I have thought about the whole being done with the whole wedding part because we plan to wear our wedding apparel..(hoping my dress will still fit) :)
