Hey Lindsey,

You may be further ahead than me in the planning process, but I have my TA arrange all of our guests travel/booking as well as arrange the date and time and confirmations with the wc. After that, the details of where, what kinda reception etc. is all up to us (at which point I'll be in the same dilemma of poor communication as you). We are getting married at the RIU Palace in Cabo San Lucas - same as you right? Do you have your date and time yet?

Have you thought any about the reception set-up?

i am getting married in cabo on august 4th. our wedding is at 4pm and we are getting married at the gazebo. i wanted to get married on the beach orginally but i heard its right by one of their pools and its really inpersonal. For the reception, i want a private one...i'm thinking outside but i don't know how hot its going to be. My friend went there for his honeymoon and he said the mexican restraunt is really nice and its right by a pool and over looks the ocean. i guess they have an indoor and outdoor area. i just have so many questions to ask and it stinks not being able to get a hold of anyone to ask. my fiance's brother and wife are going down there next month and they are going to try to talk to adriana and take pictures. i can send them to you when they get back if you want.

Lindsey,

I would absolutely love it if you would send me some pictures when your future 'in-laws' get back. I understand your frustrations because even before we booked I was asking my TA if we could have a reception on the beach, a welcome dinner, and how everything worked and she was like 'whoa, whoa, slow down'. I'm sure I will be so frustrated at that point because I like details and planning. We can try and work through it together and I'll let you know when/if I ever hear back from the WC. I'm sure if we hound them enough together we'll get some answers!

  • 2 weeks later...

I went to the Mexican consulate today to get our birth certificates translated. After waiting for over an hour, they told me they don't do translating there and to go to a private notary. I'm not sure that this will be ok. I emailed the Riu today to find out what documents we need. They are now telling me we don't need our birth certificates at all and that we just need our passports, tourist cards and witnesses. They also said they will be sending some documents about a month in advance that we will need to fill out. So now I'm completely confused. I sent an email to the US consulate in Mexico today to find out their version of what we need (since everyone seems to have a different answer.) Still waiting to hear back from them.

The good news is that the Riu answered my email promptly. The bad is that they keep saying it's too soon to be discussing the wedding and that we will be hearing from them a month before. Plus, I still don't know what we need to make the marriage legal. Anyone else having these difficulties?

hey mexicobride,

Unfortunately I cannot help you out with your dilemma as I haven't even thought that far ahead yet. I can't say I am surprised though as I have heard that you do not need need birth certificates or anything else translated from a couple other brides. I am also nervous and confused on all of this document stuff. I can just imagine showing up with nothing and not being able to get married legally..haha - that'd be just my luck! Crossing my fingers for you. It'll all work out! Let us know how it all works out.

I booked the date of our wedding in early September (our wedding is on February 8th) and I've been trying to get in touch with our wedding coordinator ever since. It has not been easy, but I was prepared as I've heard this from other Riu brides. With the help of my travel agent, I finally got in touch with someone just yesterday. It took quite a bit of persistence on her part as well. After I sent numerous e-mail's and called a couple of times with no luck. My TA sent a few e-mails and still received no response so finally she got in touch with her Sunquest contact who provided her with a name and e-mail of someone that she could contact directly. I'm not sure if you would be dealing with the same person that I am in Cancun, but if you are interested in giving it a shot, here is her e-mail address: [email protected] and her name is Diana Espino. Good luck, have patience. From what I've read from many other brides, it will pay off in the end.

Hello fellow Riu brides! I"m getting married at the Riu Palace in Los Cabos.I don't have much planning done yet but I just wanted to say that I'm so happy to have you guys incase I need some advice or help.

I STILL don't have my date confirmed but my TA said that I should be following up with the hotel myself. I bought myself a calling card, I think I will try calling the WC today or tomorrow.

Aimee.

Riu Palace Mexico was not my first choice, but it looks beautiful and it gets rave reviews on tripadvisor. We chose it because we thought it would be financially feasible for our guests and because it seems like it has something for everyone (nice rooms, beautiful beach, all-inclusive, close to playa, etc.) However, I am anxious about it since I've never been there and I can be picky. I really wanted something more intimate where we our wedding would take up the majority of the hotel and there would only be one wedding per day. The Azul Beach Hotel was my first choice, but it was just too expensive for everyone. I'm hoping other Riu brides can put my mind at ease that it's going to be amazing and also that we can help eachother navigate all the planning issues that are specific to this resort chain.

As of now we are expecting about 40 people or so. Because not all of our guests could afford the Palace, some will be staying at the Riu Yucatan. It has been explained to us that guests staying at the Palace can use any of the other Riu properties for free, but guests staying at the Playacar can only use The Tequila and the Playacar. There is a $35 charge for them to attend the wedding/reception at the Palace, but we have told our travel agent not to mention the charge to the guests, that my FH and I will take care of it. We're thinking about doing a "rehearsal" dinner at the Playacar. That way everyone can attend for free. I was told by a former Palace bride that the properties are close enough to be able to meet up on the beach and that her Yucatan guests were actually able to sneak in at times to use the Palace pools.

I have so many specific questions about the wedding/reception. I feel like the information on weddingsbyriu.com is so vague. Hs anyone been in touch with the wedding coordinator down there?
We are having our wedding at palace las americas, and the lady who I booked and confirmed with said that 80% of the guest must be staying at the RIU... Do you know if that means that it can be at any of the riu resorts and still count as the 80%? I have not gotten assigned a WC yet... Its only been 3 days, but of course still makes me nervous... How long after you confirmed did you get to talk to your WC?
