Halekulani

The Halekulani, originally a private beachfront estate, has been accommodating discriminating travelers to Waikiki Beach since 1917. Its tradition of gracious hospitality still prevails today in the same beachfront setting, an oasis of luxury, fine cuisine and personalized service. The luxury hotel is located on five prime oceanfront acres on Waikiki Beach and is within easy walking distance of Honolulu's finest shopping, dining, entertainment and watersports. It is 25 minutes from the Honolulu International Airport.

The 456-room hotel links the elegance of the past with that of the present. The design of Halekulani incorporates extensive use of Italian terrazzo and fine woods and maximizes the hotels's prime location on Waikiki Beach. More than 90 percent of the guest rooms face the Pacific, offering sweeping views of the beach and famed Diamond Head.

My first trip to Hawaii was when I was 17 with some girlfriends who ended up being too clicky for me, so I went off alone.

The pool at our hotel sucked so I walked in the Halekulani like I was a guest and went straight to the pool. OMG the pool & view is amazing. I was having the best swim of my life until one of the staff spotted me as an intruder and kicked me out about 30 minutes later :o(

So, I can't vouch for the rooms, but I can say the pool is amazing and the staff is on top of making sure only guests use the facilities. You'll have a blast!

The Halekulani is a beautiful hotel. I've been to a couple of business functions there and they were all very well done. The only problem with the hotel: it's in Waikiki. I used to live on O'ahu and I can't stand Waikiki.

The turtle bay hilton on the north shore and the ko'olina resort on the West side of the Island have a far less touristy feel.
