They never contacted the first planner, so she kept sending me emails. Then 3 days later once she was notified she sent me an email very upset and communicated in a very unprofessional manner. It was difficult to trust someone to our guests and our wedding plans, who since we preferred to communicate primarily through email, that had poor grammar, spelling, unprofessional email etiquette, who was pushing only one resort instead of giving us different options. (I know I don't have the best of all those thing either but at least capitalize your email when communicating to your client!) I specifically had told her I did not want my wedding in Jamaica (love the place but it has significance with another relationship that we don't want to be reminded of on our wedding day) and when her first recommendation didn't work out she suggested Jamaica immediately, instead of looking at other resorts in the area! It was really weird. At that point is when my fiance contacted the manager.

Anyway, this current planner Cookie, is actually super responsive, she'll forward me emails from the resorts so I know what is actually being communicated. So far I'm happy with her. Once this whole ordeal is over I'll give a complete review of destinationweddings.com just so anyone else considering them will know a little bit about what they can expect from the experience.

Who did you end up going through?
Definitely can relate to this experience. They kept pushing me toward a resort I kept telling them I wasn't interested in. Amarjit confused me with another bride of hers who was getting married on the same day as me after taking a week to research resorts on my behalf. (Needless to say they resorts she spent all that time researching were for THAT bride--not me! So she had to go back to the drawing board.) The second planner I had (her name starts with an M) inaccurately told me that Sandals didn't allow same sex couples to share a room at the resort (so my two widowed aunts wouldn't be able to share a room) and used this point to push me toward other resorts I was uninterested in. I had to contact the resort to find out that this was untrue.

I ended up making the plans myself. (Still trying to decide if this a mistake!) wink.gif

And all our guests booked through destination weddings. By the time it was time to go to Mexico we could not get a direct flight, we flew continental, not our choice. All our guests were booked with different airlines. I think because destination weddings buy bulk air. My son left for Mexico the same day as us and they put him on a completely different airline than Michael and I. Unbelievable. Other than the travel Amarjit was so helpful. And it is a nice website for your friends and family to go to.

And on the flight home, we were laid over in Houston Texas for 5 hours and then flew home to Chicago on a little charter plane. So I was a bit upset over that. Hopefully you will have a better experience.

That is SO helpful thank you! My man and I have opted out of letting them do our air arrangements, due to us having points/miles that we can redeem and have to pay very little for air. I will strongly recommend our guests do the same if possible. Thank you again!!!

I doubt it was a mistake, I was about to do that myself until Cookie came through for me. I do know that the same sex deal with Sandals changed rather recently (maybe the last few years) but it was widely known that they would not allow that previously. I'm VERY happy they've changed that rule. I do love their resorts. What a bummer and waste of time for you dealing with them, but at least it all worked out in the end with or without their help :)

Just wanted to welcome you with the forum and say "hang in there"! grouphug.gif

I think the beginning is always the craziest ... but it seems like after you get a few of those "big" things (hotel, ceremony site, etc.) under your belt ... things get much easier! Sounds like you've found some great girls to help you! Good luck!
