Glenda, the trick is getting everyone to follow that dialoge to a T! LOL

I would say make the guest pay the day pass. Screw em!

Wow, I never knew this was an issue. I told my guests that we were getting married at the Riu Ocho Rios and that the TA had reserved rooms there. Everyone that has called my TA has booked at that hotel and no one has ever mentioned to me that they would stay elsewhere. Morgan, for your sake, I hope everyone stays at your resort. It seems like you put a lot of time and effort into finding an affordable and fun place, so it would be crazy not to! Let us know how it goes...

Morgan, don't worry too much about a few guests. If they decide to stay elsewhere, they should be responsible for paying the guest pass. I was going through the same thing when I was setting up the website, worrying if I have to pay for the guest passes. But Paul told me that we could not make everyone happy so don't stress over it. So I just spell it out on the website loud and clear that guest not staying at our resort will have to purchase a guest pass. So far no one has talked about staying elsewhere.

I agree that if people choose to stay elsewhere and you mentioned that it will cost $ to enter the resort if you don't stay there, then that is their choice and they should pay. We've just told people if they choose a cheaper place to stay that's great but there is a charge to enter. I would love to be able to pay, but we would go broke and it's just not an option for us.

I'm still in the planning stages of this whole thing and have yet to run into this problem. But, I'm wondering why there is a fee for the wedding day. At least at the resort I've chosen, I have to pay per head for the reception dinner and drinks...even for the people that choose to stay at the resort...and it's all inclusive, so shouldn't their food be covered? And if that is the case, then shouldn't the money i'm paying per head cover the extra cost for the people that may choose not to stay at that resort?

Sorry, I'm kinda venting, but that just doesn't make any sense to me! Where does all of the money go?

DESIGNATED PERSON: Oh I love XYZ hotel! I was also thinking of staying there but then I would have to pay a $80 day pass each time I wanted to go hang out with everyone. I figure if I'm going to pay all that money to go to a DW then I want to be able to hang out with everyone. Plus, it would be so weird to have to pay $80 to go to their wedding. Or worse, I wouldn't want Morgan to have to pay for that.

COUPLE/FRIEND: Oh really? I had no idea there was an $80 day pass fee. That sucks. It makes more sense to stay at the hotel with everyone else if that's the case.

I would designate someone you trust, like a best friend or MOH to casually mention it to people in passing. The person should never end up mentioning who would end up paying for it only say something like the following:

I actually have been doing something similar. I'll tell my friends "if anyone seems stressed out about spending money on the trip make sure they know it's totally ok with me if they don't go. I have no expectations." I'll start spreading the same word about staying at the hotel.

Previous posts seem to be mixed about whether or not you should pay. So far it seems like everyone says I shouldn't. Is the difference that my hotel is less expensive? I felt like that made me no longer liable for day passes. Although I don't think people staying in expensive hotels should necessarily have to pay.

It's a tricky subject. i just wanted to make sure I wasn't be unreasonable. I am trying to make sure everyone knows, from my website & spreading the word, that staying together at the same hotel will be the best way to do it. I'll also pass the info on to my TA.
