Donation as wedding favor

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

We actually did this for our wedding in April. My dad has breast cancer along with a couple of my aunts so we decided to donate to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I contacted them and they provided me with my options. They have 3 different size cards with different pricing: small for $3.00 per card, medium $5.00 and large $10.00 per card. We wanted to donate for everyone at our wedding so we chose the small cards that are preprinted. I donated $180.00 and received 60 cards. Even though they are preprinted there was enough space for me to print something nice and our names and date.

So it might depend on the organization you are donating to.

I think it is such a great thing to do.

Kristi

There is a turtle sanctuary and preserve group that operates in Todos Santos and my WC had given us the option to make a donation as a previous bride had done. She bought these really cute turtles to place on each place setting with a card. We did do the donation but did not buy the little turtles. WE did take our group to release the baby turtles. It was tons of fun.

What a great idea! I know that there is a population near our destination. I'm going to look into doing a group excursion. Thanks!

That sounds great - what a wonderful cause. I hope your family is doing OK. I always appreciate receiving donations as gifts over other things, so I'm hoping my guests will, too.

In terms of the cards, I think it does depend on the organization. I think our organization might send us individual cards if we were to request them, but unlike Susan G. Komen, it's a very small foundation that's just starting up. I think they need all the money and manpower they can get to get the fund growing, and not on labor, materials, postage, etc to provide us with the cards. So instead, I think I'll do a large lump sum on behalf of our wedding guests and make my own individual cards to place on the tables.
Our wedding is in April, too!

Both my aunt and FI's father passed away after battling cancer. In lieu of wedding favors we have made a wedding donation to the LiveStrong campaign.

http://www.livestrong.org/site/c.khL....BCED/Home.htm

In addition to the placecards we will receive, we also bought LiveStrong bands for our 100 guests.

We are going to attach the bands to the cards, but are debating whether to set them at the dinner tables at the reception or include them with the OOT stuff.

What do you think?

This is such a beautiful way to honor someone's memory.

One of my friend's recently did this at her wedding - her father had passed from lung cancer. she did 1 large donation and then printed individual 'scrolls' - bascially a nice 5 x 7 parchment paper. she rolled them up and tied them with a beautiful ribbon that reflected the colors of her wedding and then attached little tags that said "Thank You". There was one on each place setting.

the letter said something like:

"In honor of your presence and support of us and our marriage, we have made a generous donation to XXXXXXXXXXFoundation. This donation is in your name but in honor of Jennifer's beloved and missed father, Harry, who passed away in 1999 from a long and painul struggle with Lung Cancer. We hope that our group donation provides assistance to other families during their difficult times. Thank you again for being our guest.

With Love,

Bride & Groom"

I'm a huge proponent of a donation in lieu of a small material gift that most people won't use anyway! We will be doing it for our wedding- a donation to Hospice in honor of my dad. It's so meaningful and personal and I think it's becoming more of a trend these days. We'll do a lump sum donation to Hospice and I think we'll put a larger framed note at each table. That's what my brother did for his wedding and it worked well.
