Help I'm stressing! Anyone concerned with getting sick, burned etc...before wedding?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We're going down 3 nights before our actual ceremony. Originally I wanted to get in to Punta Cana the day before the ceremony but now our dates been moved. I wanted to get there right before so I could relax the rest of the week & not stress about disaster.

Is anyone else concerned about getting sick, burned, tanlines, breaking out, or gaining weight before ceremony? Call me paranoid but I'm super concerned that I'm going to get sick on my wedding day and feel & look like crap. So now I'm thinking I'm only going to eat pre-packaged foods for the 3 days before wedding. I totally feel like Charlotte on Sex in City...lol ... I also wouldn't want to drink too much before (like at all) and gain weight and/or break out because of any food and alcohol. Plus I'm afraid of getting burned or horrible tan lines, and bandeau tops are not an option for me (my ta ta's need some support). My FI thinks I'm being paranoid but I just don't feel like I'll be able to relax before the wedding day & it's kind of a waste to go 3 days before if I'm just trying to prevent all the what if's. We can reschedule flights & stay longer after wedding but it's going to cost $400+ more and I don't know if it's worth it.

Does anyone else stress about these things or actually had disaster happen on/before wedding? How long before the ceremony is everyone else flying down?

We got to Mexico 2 1/2 days before the weddng.. I wasnt worried about gaining weight too much, I just enjoyed my time there.. but I did worry tan lines since I had a strapless dress.. and I worried about breaking out.. so I just bought some special sun block for my face, and a few strapless bikini tops and stayed in the shade a little more than I normally would.. and ir worked like a charm

I get in on a sunday and my wedding is on wednesday so I am in the same boat as you. But I did this purposely to give myself sometime to prep before the big day. It will give me time to check out the location of the ceremony/reception, plan how everyone can walk down the aisle(where to put it too!) and find the good foods to eat before my wedding(I have celiac's so I cannot eat wheat or I will be majorly sick). I guess I will also have time to do a hair/make up trial if I want to or just get a massage on the beach the day before to relax.

I do feel your worries though about drinking/eating too much or getting tan lines. I am bringing an aerosol SPF100 to do my chest/arms and will just be layering it on all the time! I am so pale and burn really easy so I think I will fake and bake before hand too(I know it is bad for me, but I am just doing it this once for my wedding). And if all else fails we can just use bronzer or photo shop!!

Try and enjoy those 3 days too as they are part of your wedding vacation and they set the tone for your guests and your wedding day. I hope you can feel a little less stressed!! :)

I haven't been so much worried about me but about my FI. I have already told him when we get there he needs to be careful not to get burnt before the wedding (he burns easily) and not to drink too much while he is out golfing that morning with his buddies (in the morning I will be at the spa with my girls and he will be golfing with his buddies). I have worried about my face breaking out because I have acne but I am taking all my things with me and all I can do is be prepared. I know its hard but try not to preoccupy yourself with worrying. Your day will be perfect, you will be beautiful and the day will come off without a hitch! Good luck!

We flew down 3 days before and I was worried about that stuff, but just came prepared. Strapless tops and suits, lots of sunscreen, paid attention to the drinks and food instead of just stuffing my face, and the best thing was a girlfriend who brought an entire suitcase full of emergency kit stuff: http://licensetostill.files.wordpres...pg?w=450&h=300

But to be honest, the days before the ceremony were not like my normal sit on the beach and eat/drink junk for hours type of vacation. We had meetings with the WC, had to put together OOT bags, and the biggest thing is that we tried to hang out with the guests that we don't see very often. That definitely kept me out of the sun and my mind off of food and calorie filled drinks.

Just bring lots of suncreen and go prepared to say no to a couple of drinks and tempting treats before the ceremony. You will be fine!

I was worried as well, we got there 3 days before hand. I would always eat a bunch of fruit with every meal to help fill me up and not eat too much crap. I have to be careful of mix drinks normally (have a stomach condition) so I just have one and then a bottle or two of water. Also I brought SPF 95 and a long sleeve UV protection shirt. I did break out though on my arms really bad b/c of all the sunscreen but my photographer airbrushed it out on the couple of pics you could see it. Plus you will be busy with wedding stuff so that will keep you busy and out of the sun.

we're getting there 2 days before so we can get the last details sorted out. but i'm with you on this one! i would get there the day before if i could!!

My FI insists that yes, we're getting married but that i also need to enjoy our time there. i agree, but i will not be relaxing until the ceremony starts and i know that it's all ok now. i will not be out in the sun much for those two days and will definately NOT be drinking at all the night before (although it'd be the same if the wedding was here).

as for the food, i've never gotten really sick (fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc, etc, etc) at an AI before, but i think you'll know by the first day what your body will and wont tolerate. there are foods at each resort we've been to that my tummy just doesn't like; TMI, but as soon as i get any kind of weird stomach feeling, BEFORE i even get sick, i pop some imodium and stay away from that food for the rest of the trip, lol! i also always bring some type of immune booster...the one i've found that works best for me is the CVS brand of airborn; the kind that dissolves in your mouth. first sign of a sore throat or any sneezing and i pop those religiously every three hours for the rest of the day. the next day i wake up and nothing!! i haven't had a full-on cold since i discovered these when we went to vegas last year!!

also remember to take a DEEP breath b/c you will definately make yourself sick if your super stressed.

so i guess you and I both need to take my FIs advice and wuuussaa--as much as a bride can of course wink.gif

Enjoy your 3 days before the wedding! :) I agree with everyone, be a little proactive and be prepared and you'll be fine. Wear sunscreen and relax under an umbrella, to avoid sunburn. It's still going to be just as relaxing in the shade, as in the sun! Enjoy a drink, or two, but stop there and enjoy some of the great fresh juices or refreshing cold water with lime! Eat what you're used to, don't be adventerous before the wedding. Bring some medications, just in case. Cold FX, Advil, Immodium, Claritin, etc.

Once you feel prepared, you'll likely to realize you can deal with anything and relax!

Thanks for all the responses & tips!!! Yall made me feel way better! SPF 100 great idea! Emergency kit excellent idea (I wouldn't think to bring super glue- but that can come in handy)! Imodium pills also excellent idea!! Okay so if I prepare properly I think I'll be okay. I'm going to fake n bake a week before hand too so I can at least get a base layer. I hate to, but it must be done.

I hope I can relax before hand though. It would be nice for it to still feel like a "real" vacation and not just avoiding disaster.
