Boy, do I miss my maintanance free short hair. I am afraid even if I perm my hair, the humidity will end up making my hair look like Don King. I have been wearing braids for the past few months. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure how you're wearing your hair now, but you totally rock that short cut! What about a wrap style a la Nia Long (before she grew her hair out)?

JanineA, I really love that first style...thanks for posting it! It may get "borrowed" Mexico!

You could also wear it I had the same problem when I first started growing my hair out. Maybe you can do the little twist coils, two strand twists or a twist out? Those styles would work great with 3 inch hair. I'm not sure what look you are envisioning. A few posts back I suggested Kinky curly if you are into wearing your hair naturally curly. I have a friend in Philadelphia that gets sew ins all the time. I'm not sure how far you are, but if you need the info, I can get it for her stylist.

I have natural hair, been natural for 4 years, so for my vow renewal, I'm wearing a twist-out with a hair flower, and the back pinned up. I went natural partly because when going to the gym in the mornings, I would only have enough time to pin it up for work, because it would be soaking wet, but with my natural hair, it takes me 5-10 minutes to just pull it back into puff and fluff it, or if it's already in braids, I just smooth the edges. For me, it's low maint, especially with everything I have going on...lol

I know nothing about texturizers, but I'm gonna look into them tonight. Thx for the tip!

Iâ€m sure we will figure out something before are big day. Do you have any idea at all of if you want your hair all up, down, half up and half down…. Iâ€m trying to make that decision and then go from there…..
I'm loving the pic that JanineA posted so now I'm confused. I was gonna get hair added and have it half up/half down with big loose curls. I really like updo's but I think I look better with my hair hanging. I tried to post some of my inspiriation pics but I'm not tech savvy at all and have to figure out how to do it.

My hair doesn't hold curl either! And don't even talk about going to the gym, which is a must since I want to lose weight before the wedding. I left the gym once and my mom asked me why I washed my hair before I went! That's how sweaty it gets. Ironically, I live in New Orleans so my hair is used to humidity. It doesn't really frizz anymore but it has sooo many other issues. I was trying to start the natural process last year and that didn't go so well so now I'm just at a crossroads. I want to be free of the chemicals but honestly I am a little too vain to be ok with what my hair looks like when I sweat. Me not having a relaxer was great until I would start sweating. Too bad I even sweat in my sleep!

Would you be open to wearing a wig? A friend of mine had a hair debacle and hers fell out while she was wearing a sew in. She removed the sew in and got another hair dresser to make her a wig similar to what quick weave is (I'm assuming because I've never had one). Anyway, her wig looked just like her full sew in. I thought it was really cute and actually wanted one myself.

I must say, I've been on this site for a few months now and had no clue there were so many "chocolate brides." I'm glad I have this new outlet to get info and get your ideas/feedback.

I have been going through hair woes for the past year and I have to say that once again I'm at a crossroads. I have no clue what to do with my hair on a daily basis nevertheless for my wedding frown.gif A year ago I got my hair died black and had a horrible allergic reaction. So I tried to stop getting chemicals all together but only lasted for about 6 months. By the end of that time I think I was ready to shave my head (too bad I don't have the face for that). I sweat from my scalp and that was the one of the main reasons that natural didn't work for me. Once I'd leave the gym, it just looked like I needed wash/blow out everyday! Then once I did get relaxed again, my hair was so thin I hated it. So, since then I've had a sew-in. Now that I'm ready to get rid of that I have no clue what to do next. Everybody says that I have "nice" enough hair to go natural, but just in that 6 months I broke so many combs that I got sick of it all.

Anyway, sorry to vent but I'm just really confused. FI's sister is one of my BMs and she does hair so I think getting my hair done for the wedding won't be a problem. It's what am I supposed to do now that I'm struggling with!!

Sorry about your woes sad.gif Why not try transitioning to natural again. There are so many resources to help you learn to deal with the natural growth without breakin combs :) on my blog Natural Coils & Kinks, the sidebar has a list of a lot of really good blogs and sites for natural hair help.

Thank goodness you have hair help at the wedding!! That's a godsend.

I'm not tryin to be contrary or anything, but I just want to say, texturizers, relaxers, texlaxers, silkeners etc etc etc.... It's ALL the same stuff.

THESE ARE FREAKIN GORGEOUS!!! I love them both, but the 2nd one seems so beach weddingy to me. with a small flower in the back near the bun....adorable!

What about a twistout worn loose, or a braid out or bun out depending on the wave pattern you want. Also, were you rinsing your scalp daily when you were working out, and moisturizing your hair root to tip? That may help with the retention, cuz hair's always growing (unless ur ill), it's just the length is not necessarily being retained. CurlyNikki would be a great reference for you too! TONS of knowledgeable natural ladies there.

I love how our hair can be as low maintenance or as high maintenance as we want it to be!! Your twistout sounds beautiful and I'm leaning toward a twistout pinned up somehow with a flower for my style too...but we'll see what I actually end up with, lord knows my mind changes from day to day.

Is this what makes ur hair bone straight? I think I saw someone yesterday with this, at first i thought it was a weave or just a great flat iron, but it wasn't a weave and the humidity didn't seem to effect it at all ( I was at an outdoors concert) going to LHCF right now to research lol.

BKT is so popular these days!! Heartbeat have you done it before? I'd suggest doing it like asap, and then see how long it lasts on your hair, and then do it again just before you go away since you have a few months till then.

For some it doesn't make their hair bone straight when in contact with water (like a bone straight perm does) but it makes it way easier to straighten, stay straight longer, and loosens the curl pattern when the hair gets wet.
