Though generally i have to say both Thomson and TC were useless when we were booking they only know about the holiday they know nothing about the weddings - even the wedding departments are not that knowledgeable.
We originally went in mind with an Iberostar resort (we only went back to re-look as the one we chose was adult only and FI's sis has a wee baby and they are coming to the wedding) but never had the RIU pushed on us, TA never even mentioned the RIU resorts to us it was just whilst researching we came across it, We had heard of RIU before and knew they were a good chain so thats why we opted for it really. but thats a few times ive read now that TA's seemed to push RIU...
And we booked through TA for piece of mind like you... Even more glad now as the Volcano keeps popping up now and again... x

I went to Mexico in May 2007 and loved it - generally speaking no matter how much i like somewhere i never tend to go back as there is so much of the world to see. But we loved Mexico so much we decided to go back and get married - we are going back to the same hotel as well - as we knew what our guests would be getting for their money.

The only downside to Mexico i would say in comparison to other 'caribbean' resorts are the beaches - they are not are pure white sand and picturesque as places like Cuba and DR - but in every other way in my opinion they outweigh these other destinations.

Oh cant wait to go - my main worry about everything is that we dont have a winter like we did this year with all the snow as we go in January! I couldnt bear getting delayed! Its coming round so fast!!!!!

Hiya

May seems to be far to hot for us and the children who are coming and june-October is hurricane season so feel a bit limited to Nov-Feb

I have been to mexico twice, both times from 24th june for 2 weeks. The 1st time we had rain for about 3 minutes on one day and that was it for the whole holiday, the second time we went it rained for 1 day. Although I think June/july is hotter than may. x

Hi Soon-to-be-McRae

Nov - Feb would be absolutely fine - i am travelling in Jan and was a bit dubious at first as the temps are not quite so hot an average of 24C but have seen on quite a few websites and they says the temps quite often get up to 27C - these are also the driest months to go - the hotter is gets the more rain there tends to be. On a few of the photographers websites i have been looking at most of them have also said this is the best time of the year to go - but it is high season from Dec - Feb so the prices are apparently a bit higher but we didnt find that i have to say. Nov and the first week of Dec you can get some really good prices on. Good luck. Mexico is v much like the canary islands they dont really close so everything will be open for your kiddy winks x

I have been to mexico twice, once in cancun 2006 and the 2nd in riviera maya 2009. We loved both resorts but the reason we chose cancun was because around the hotel zone and delphinus beach the sand is white and the sea is turquoise and wanted this for our photos and we have alot of young guests coming who enjoy abit of partying. Cancun is more commercial and very american like the restaurants they have and shopping malls and I'd say the riviera maya was more your mexican resort apparently they are trying to turn it into a cancun like resort and the locals don't want this, we found a few traditional mexican food stalls and there is a bus station where you can get a bus to cancun for the day, which was really cheap, it took an hour but they had a film on for you to watch on the way!

We are booking our holiday package through a TA and staying at the gran caribe.

We have also taken out wedding insurance incase there is a cancellation for any reason.

I've been to Cancun once, and Riviera Maya once (just this past March actually) and the whole area is beautiful, I don't think there are any bad spots. We stopped at a number of different hotels on the way to and from excursions and all the resorts looked beautiful. We stayed at Gran Bahia Principe Coba in March which we loved, but are looking to try somewhere else for our wedding. Thinking of the Barcelo resorts this time. Do many people change hotels for honeymoon are are you planning on just staying where you are?

I think we have now definatly decided to stick with November 2011 just carnt wait to book now and dont think they come available till september/october unless anyone knows otherwise.

JoanneIreland - We are just going to stay at the hotel we are getting married at and planning on having a honeymoon together at a later date when we get home

We have never been to mexico before but have always wanted to go which is the reason we have chosen to get married there, what are the beaches like in Cancun? is it white sand and turquoise waters, just thinking of the pics lol
