Welcome to the forum - another UK bride - we must all be fleeing the country and travelling across the pond to marry next year.welcome4.gif

Well we had bitter sweet news this week...... Bitter - FI's had his wages cut AGAIN!!! The company he works for are still struggling from the recession and things will now be hard. He is on the job hunt but that is a frustrating game!! We are hoping we can still book Mexico if the price is right (and my dad has give us some money to help out) It's just come at the wrong time. Trying to stay positive though and hopefully something will come up!

I've been quite the lurker lately, been checking the thread but not really posting.

I'm SO very sorry to hear that, Michelle. Thoughts are with you and I sincerely hope you guys are able to make things work.

I'm a court reporter and work has been SLOW lately. While I can't be laid off since I'm self-employed, when the phone stops ringing, I don't get paid.

All I can say is these are very interesting times we're living in. Hate to be the pessimist, but the financial crisis we are experiencing is here to stay. There is no quick fix. The US can't even pay the interest on their debt.

It took a while to catch up on all those posts! I have been swamped with finals and then took a trip up to DC to visit friends and family. And I bought a dress while there! This is the only picture online that I can find of it, but a friend took pics of me in it, so I'll have to post those when she sends me them. It's hard to tell but there is lace below the breast area, and then down at the bottom. I'm having it made with a sweetheart neckline instead of the original. I love love love it! I can't believe I have to wait until January to see it again sad.gif

Also, in regards to the legal wedding thing, our reasons for doing the legal one stateside are a little different from the ones mentioned here. As mentioned before, it is a hassle for the translations, etc, and nevermind the cost aspect (it was $60 here... and yes, we actually are already married! Got married on April 16:). But neither of those would be big enough reasons for us to get married here. Our reason is that my fiance is in the Army and being moved to Hawaii. The Army pays a cost of living allowance (COLA) for the dependents of the serviceman... and in HI, COLA if you are married is really high. It is actually an extra $1,000 tax-free a month! So for him to move to HI single (he goes in January) would mean we miss out on an extra $6,000. So that is a pretty huge sum of money. On top of that, there is insurance. I am currently a grad student, and in the US that means I don't have a company paying for my insurance. So I pay $350 a semester for health insurance! And when school ends, I am uninsured. I just tore a ligament in my knee this past weekend, and my insurance ends tomorrow. Can you imagine the medical bills if I didn't have his insurance?? It'd be in the tens of thousands.

So actually, part of the reason that we chose to get married in Mexico is because it gives us an excuse to give our parents for us getting married before going there. We could explain that waiting on the legal paperwork to go through means me being uninsured until it does... and then they understood. Although no one knows that we are already married, it's our "dirty little secret", haha. All that they know is we are getting married before Mexico!

Thanx for all your well wishes girls! We are trying to stay positive and hoping that if anything we will be able to book Mexico but put on hold everything else. Not ideal but if the money isn't there it's out of our hands! :o(...Still getting married is the main thing isn't it? I really hope work picks up for all of us! It's such a hard times!

Here is a pic of my BM dresses but on the hanger does nothing for them. They look 100% better on! But so you can see.....

Hey ladies! Need advice. I'm thinking for my bridesmaids I'm just going to have them buy a dress in whatever style they like in a certain color (aqua blue). Would this look cheese-tastic? I'm trying to be laid back about the whole thing, especially because my bridesmaids are all different shapes/sizes and I don't want any of them to feel uncomfortable. Plus I want them to be able to wear the dress again after the wedding. Shoes are no biggie, we're all going barefoot...and for the groomsmen, I was just thinking white button up shirt with khaki pants.

Anyone else doing it this way, or does the cheese stand alone? Hehe.
