The preferred club rooms are closer to the beach and have a soaking tub on the terraces, they might also have liquor in the mini-bar - and the only other upgrades is the preferred club conceirge room with private internet (the main building has a business center with tons of computers and printers).
I stayed in a swim-out room (regular service) and it was still amazing.
We did not offer the upgrade to preferred club to our guests in the group rate - but we did offer each room type to book.

I'm just not sure if I want to spend the extra 200-300 per person for preffered club when I dont know how much we will use the services provided. As well, the view to us is not that important as we dont plan on spending a ton of time in our room. Thanks for all the info.

saza 175- i am from boston! our ceremony is at 4pm at the gazebo! we should meet up!

as far as the preferred club we decided that it was not worth the extra $$ since most of our guests won't have the upgrade and how much time will u really spend in your room?

Does anyone have any photos from there wedding that was at the gazebo? I would also love to see any pics from a reception at the gazebo terrace.

ALSO.....

How far in advance should I let Cecilia know about my upgrades? I feel really disconnected from the planning process. I should have done a site visit but we just don't have the time!

Hello! I am new to the forum but have had a lot of questions answered by reading the threads--so thank you! Like mellyrobert, I would also like to see photos of a wedding at the gazebo since we are considering that as our site. Also, Ive been searching the threads, are there any brides who have had a legal wedding at Secrets Maroma? I would like to know how that experience was...

Hi ladies,

We just returned from SMB where we were married April 30th. I will work and post my review ASAP, but rest assured that your wedding here will be amazing. The resort is stunning and the service is the bomb. We were married at the poolside gazebo and I wouldn't have done it any other way. The beach was just way to windy. It was actually really cool to see all the guest watching and cheering us on during our vows. Everyone was just so polite and supportive.

Also, if you are looking for recommendations for a DJ service, DJ MANNIA was perfect. Super nice group of guys and they just got everything right. Our photographer was Dino Gomez and I loved him. We had so much fun with him. I also received the DVD of our ceremony that was included in the Secrets Ultimate Wedding package and I couldn't be happier with it. I would not spend extra on a wedding videographer if it is part of your wedding package with SMB.

My only BIG complaint was that the power to all of the rooms was out the entire day of our wedding and we were not informed by anyone that this was going to happen. When I called Cecilia, she was unaware of the situation as it didn't effect the lobby or the spa. It was a major inconvenience for me and our guests having no air. The resort was not proactive at helping us come up with alternative solutions until we really got pissy with them. I ended up showering and getting ready in the spa since they had air, but it ruined our plans for pictures that day.

If you are planning a destination wedding, you just have to be aware going into it that these sort of things can and probably will happen and be prepared to take a proactive approach in coming up with solutions or you will be sadly disappointed. All in all, the service we received made up for the major inconvenience we encountered on the wedding day.

Good luck planning and let me know if you have any questions for me!!

Melinda

If you guys want an outside photographer for your Secrets Maroma wedding, I highly recommend Dennis from Blue Lens Photography (Playa del Carmen Wedding Photographer in Riviera Maya | Bluelenscaribe). He was awesome. Amazing pics, and we never felt like Dennis and his team were intrusive at our wedding. (We had 45 guests).

We also really liked the Juan, the resort photgrapher from Secrets. His work was great as well. We had just already hired and paid for an outside photographer, otherwise we were really impressed with his work.

We also used DJ Mannia and highly recommend them. Nice and fun!

Also, here is our review on TripAdvisor for Secrets Maroma:

“We could not have asked for a better experience to get married!!!”

Oct 22, 2009 - JblakeHouston

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun

My wife and I decided in early 2009 to get married at Secrets Maroma Beach. We did a lot of research on all inclusive resorts in the Cancun/Playa Del Carmen area and we decided on Secrets Maroma. We initially had some hesitation when we first selected it because it had only been open 4 or 5 months at that time and there were some mixed reviews. We figured this was likely kinks being worked out as they were brand new and that by the time our wedding hit 9 months later everything would be fine. We were more than right!!! The resort was gorgeous, the pools were fabulous, the rooms outstanding, food high quality (the best of any all inclusive I have stayed at) and the service was top notch.

The staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful with whatever your needs are and since we had a group of 45, our needs were many. It all started with Cecilia, the wedding coordinator for the resort. Yes, you actually get your own wedding coordinator provided by the resort. She was responsive, attentive to our inquiries and even went above and beyond by suggesting things we never thought of that made our wedding truly memorable. All of our guests that I have talked to since getting back have all said they want to go back to Secrets Maroma in the near future. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that not only did the bride and groom get first rate attention and an enjoyable experience, but our guests did as well. A lot of them were very impressed with the food and the service. They all have said they were shocked at how good the food was for an all-inclusive resort. With 7 restaurants to choose from, they got a wide variety of options. They also loved the attentive service around the pool for drinks and also the staff walking around with trays of succulent snacks that you would expect from the appetizer menu of a upscale restaurant. This resort had it all for us. The beach was gorgeous with the teal green waters and the fish that come up to you and eat bread crumbs from your hands. Their spa was a tranquil and enjoyable getaway from the sun. The entertainment and dance club gave us all some great times in the evenings. My wife and I are already planning our trip back for our anniversary. Be couldn't have been any happier with our choice of Secrets Maroma Beach.

Traveled with Other--Age group 35-49

Date of stay: October 2009

Traveled with: Spouse/Partner

Note: We got married on the beach (In Oct) a/r 5 pm, held cocktail hr on the beach right after, and our reception was in the spa courtyard (I think you need 40 or more guest to try to do that).

Kellykm7, I read your review on Tripadvisor, It was really helpful!! Thank you!!

Melfry66, I so look forward to your review and pics!

I am now trying to book my room/flight with my TA, and the price is about $3500 for 7 nights including air and airport transfers and preferred club ocean view room. Is that price reasonable compared to yours? We are going there late September so it is the off peak season so should have the lowest price out of the year. I am wondering if the price is going to be lower once it gets closer to the date because of lower demand, but I don't want to take chances either....
