and about the dropped groomsman, it sucks but i wouldn't sweat it too much. what guy wouldn't want to fill in and escort two lovely ladies down the isle? all that really matters is that both you and your groom show up!
Good suggestions!!!

bridetobe, I think w/your 40ish people, the above might work pretty well :) Good luck!

I read that most of times, guests will be too full to eat cake i wouldn't recommend upgrading the cake. A small cake will be fine.
Exactly, you don't want to waste money on a cake that no one even eats. You get dessert w/the meal so I the standard cake should definitely work for 25. That's what we're doing, too.

Same w/my FI's fam. They weren't too enthused about it at the beginning, but once they saw where it was going to be and realized the fantastic vacation they would have, they're totally excited & sooooo ready for the beach!

I know it will take time for them to jump on board. Just hurts that FI family is supportive and mine isn't, I understand where my parents are coming from they are very Old school. I feel sooo bad, but truly BIG traditional wedding isn't our style at all.

I guess at the end of the day the way I see it is .....the people who truly love and care about us will find a way to get there and save money....we are giving them a full year to save. Im just going to try and stay positive and not let my mother's negative attitude affect me. (fingers crossed, she will get excited soon)

I look forward to reading more about those brides weddings coming up, The Royal PDC seems like a great resort :) So, now we have the date set....time to start the STD. Im thinking of passport style

I hear you. We were going to have a big wedding at home, when my dad and step mom decided to "dis-own" my sister and me. My father was supposed to officiate my wedding and walk me down the aisle. Now they are refusing to come at all. DRAMA!

That's when I bailed on the big home wedding and decided a DW was for us. We decided this literally a month ago. I have 15 people coming with just my sister on my side and that's the way I LIKE it! Me and drama do NOT mix. My dad's loss unfortunately. :-(

Yes I did! Thank you so much! I'm kind of a graphic design and photography junkie. I really wanted everything to have a very cohesive "branded" look. So I did our website and invitations. I'll be doing our programs, place cards and menus too. I have professional printer I work with, so that makes it easier. Web stuff really isn't that hard if you just devote some time to learning it. Our wesbite is just a customized wordpress blog hosted on my own server.

Thank you for the kind words!

Oh yeah and NOW my parents both decided to tell me this isnt what they want to pay for...Im being selfish and asking way to much for guest to "vacation" to attend our wedding. sad.gif Seriously why did they wait to say this once we finalize things?? Im so upset BUT FI and I are set this is what we want...Its our wedding.

I have a feeling this is just the beginning of the DRAMA....I wanted DW to avoid all this, but I guess sometimes its unavoidable.
They may come around when they realize they cannot dictate the terms of your wedding. And if not, then you should still have your dream wedding as you wish. hmm...do you plan on having a local reception at home? Maybe they could pay for THAT :-) lol

We booked him directly but you can book him through the wc's. He responds very promptly to emails so I thought it was just easier.

I'm using Smart Honeymoon and I will probably ask for something diff for bridal shower like lingerie.

I booked him directly because I wanted to ensure that I actually had him as the DJ. He told me I would not be charged the vendor fee because he is the in-house DJ for the Royal anway. If this is not the case, i'm charging it to him lol.

I also booked him directly and the wc's told me (in writing) that I will not be charged the vendor because he is in house. Did they recently change the policy?
