Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

If you want to see an awesome short video of a wedding at the Bahia Akumal resort check out the blog of the video guy we are going to hire: http://www.thecaptureblog.com/

Scroll down to the video of Chris + Cathy. It doesn`t say where it was shot, but I thought I recognized the resort and after speaking with the videographer on the phone, I was right :-)

what a great video!

so i have a question cuz i'm reading on here one thing and was told another. we are staying at the coba, but getting married at tulum beach. i originally asked for akumal but was told it wasn't available. i was under the impression we would then have dinner at one of the tulum restaurants but was told we could only choose from 3 places at coba. others on here (who i can't remember off hand) said they are staying at the coba, getting married at akumal and having dinner at the akumal side. would love some input, thanks.

I stayed at Coba and got married at Tulum. The only resturants I was given to choose from were the ones on the Coba side. When you're sorting that stuff out with Karla perhaps you should make a special request to her.

Great video, BTW. Makes me want to go back and do it all again. This time sans family though so we have more of a honeymoon. :-)

That video is beautiful, thanks for posting!

I have been looking at the different wedding packages GBP offers, which packages did you guys decide to go with? Does anybody have any details or insight on the "extras" in the more expensive packages that aren't in the cheaper ones? Some of the things on the list seem a little vague!

Can anyone shed light on any issues (do they ensure its a 5 year renewal or anything like that). I am just a bit confused about how this occurs. I see the packages on the website, I just do not find them really all that informative. Just looking for some suggestions!

Thanks!!
My understanding is that anything that's "symbolic" is basically a vow renewal of sorts. Its still a wedding like any other but there is no signing at the end and ALOT less paperwork. That's what we're doing. We're getting legal here at home and doing a Mayan Blessing down there.

2010 packages are listed on page 133 of this thread. If anyone has any newer or more updated packages please let us know! I am new so I may have missed them :)

We are doing a symbolic too. The fiance absolutely refuses to get a blood test (it's not just the whole blood test in Mexico thing - he's terrified of needles!).

As far as the differences, for the symolic packages the cheap one is $700USD and I think the only items not included that are on the more expensive one ($1160USD) is a flower arrangement for the bridal table, champagne toast and a room upgrade. We're going with the cheaper package since we are already going to be in the "golden" or whatever it is called at Coba. From my research, they will do their best to make the "symbolic" ceremony look like a legal one, if you aren't telling your guests you are really getting legally married back home. I've even read about brides doing a fake signing so their guests didn't know. Not sure if we will tell our guests or not - still on the fence!
