eec129
I didn't even realize you were supposed to buy gifts! However, we are paying for everything ourselves, so it didn't really cross my mind!
IrishgirlinNY
We are paying for the wedding ourselves. I did plan on making a photo album for my dad and his mother. That would probably be it. Maybe print a few pictures for my father to hang up in his house. My mother had hung pictures of my brothers wedding of the family when he got married and I know my dad would want the same for ours since my mom isnt here anymore. Jennybell1
WTF Whose wedding is this anyways?? A diamond necklace? Holy Sh*t she needs to shake her head. My parents are not contributing anything to my wedding as it is my second one, however Riley's mom will be giving us probably about 1/3 of our costs. I didnt give anything to my parents at my last wedding, bc I feel that they wouldnt have given it to me to get something back. They gave it to me to help with the financial aspect so to expect a gift, well it would be like me buying them a gift with their money. Now that I am older and able to afford more, we will probably treat the mom's to something at the spa as well as some jewlery and a pashmina, and the boys get a round of golf and some golf balls. Im not going out of my way and spending exorberant (sp?) amounts of money on my family bc they dont expect that and its not the idea behind a wedding. My gift to them is were getting married to a person we love and want to be with forever (finally). The parents on both side have always said, all they want to see is their child happy, and that is what we are and will be. That is better then any gift we can ever give them. I would tell your soon to be MIL to "sod off" in a nice way of course. The gall?! Geez...I still can't get over that. Do whatever you want for your family, or do nothing, in the end its your day and the ones who really care about the both of you, wont worry about what they are getting out of this. Good Luck - looks as though your going to need it!
Taghan
WOW....that's quite the hint for a gift!!! My parents are helping us quite a bit and FIL's haven't said or done anything yet to help financially. If anything, I think we'll do photo book or something like that. bride2b10
A diamond necklace?!?!! That's just hilarious (in a slightly tragic sort of way). I will just echo everybody else, it's beyond ridiculous. She's not contributing, you are paying for her trip and she wants a gift...I'm just curious, why exactly does she think she deserve another gift in addition to you paying for her trip? ebdaniel113
Bride2b10, I know!!!! I don't know why she feels like we owe her another gift! She does, however, send her bills to my FI and asked that I stay elsewhere the night before we leave for Mexico because she wants one last night with FI! Uhhhh, no, don't think so!!! Ahhh, it is so frustrating!!!
bride2b10
Does your FI agree that it's all a bit much? B/c if he does, maybe he can sit down and talk to her and explain that you are starting your family so you can't financially do that AND pay for her bills (that's an issue all on its own imo). michelle6114
Diamond necklace? Please! If anyone gets it, should be the bride. I got my mother and sister each a frame from Personalzation mall.com. Just a 5x7 frame engraved with Ocho Rios, Jamaica. They are wood and really unique looking. And I made the nice oot bags for everyone so I felt they were enough. My mom did not really contribute to the wedding but she is on a fixed income and it was a huge financial burden for her to travel. This Christmas I will also get her something extra nice. MayaLove
Wow, yeah she's crazy if she think she is getting a diamond necklace lol. I do think giving the parents some sort of gift is a good idea though. Even if they are not paying. I see giving the parents a gift as more of a personal thing and not so much a thanks for paying thing.
