Is it wrong to cut off booking at a certain number of guest ???

I just received an update from my travel agent and we have 49 guest confirmed.... I almost fell out my chair. I was not expecting that many people to book sooo fast in only a month time frame. I sent out STD's on September 15th. I truly was planning for 50 guests, we are definitely going to go over budget now. There are still guest booking, I am going to have to cut off the booking at 80 people, the Hitmatsu terrace only holds 80 people and that’s where I want my reception and if we get any more than 80 its really really going to blow the budget out the water lol....

 

Do you all think that it is bad if I cut booking off at 80 people? I did tell guest to book and RSVP by October 15th so part of me feels like I can cut it off, but my dad keeps saying it’s a blessing that soo many people want to come that far and celebrate our special day and I do agree with him but the more people the more money and we changed to a destination wedding to reduce wedding cost.

 

What to do ?

This is a tough one Toya because you sent out the STDs already. Do you think you will reach 80? How many STDs did you send out? I probably wouldn't cap it if you think you will be slightly over 80..but if it's going to be over by a lot, then you're going to have a huge decision to make.. I still probably wouldn't simply b/c I don't think you should reneg (sp??) on your invites..

It does say a lot that everyone wants to come, but I totally get the expense part too.

its hard because i sent out 150 std's thinking I would only get 50-60 guest which is what most people would think, I assume. Being that they have to spend at least 1K to join us I didn't think that many people would go. Now I'm wishing I had been a bit more selective in sending out invites ughhh I don't kow what to do... waiting around is driving me nutty

That's a lot of invites! I think we only invited about 70, 34 are coming and some are still not sure. At this point I don't care anymore... but already it's getting more and more expensive, so I can only imagine how it is for you. ... at least you have lots of time to save??

This just reinforces the fact that I'm doing an "A" invite list and a "B" invite list. As people on the A list decline, I'll add the appropriate amount of B people....

Jeni that is a good idea! Some of my STD's are going out to family members who I am pretty sure won't go, but would appreciate the invite anyway! Toya I really don't know what to tell ya... except that I agree with Tam to the extent that you extended the invitation to that many people, and shouldn't go back on it... BUT, your worst nightmare could be that most or all RSVP. Man oh man, I don't know what I would do if that many people came.... haha I think you must be really popular, I cant even think of 150 people to send invites to!!

Nat the funny part is that the guest list is actually 300 + people and we had to narrow it down to 150 people which was the "A" list. We sent invites to family & friends that we thought wouldn't come but would love to receive an invite and those family and friends are actually coming lol.... me and Mike know alot of people and have big families and alot of friends it was very hard making our guest list.

HI! I dont think you should cut off at all. You sent out STD asking these people to come celebrate your special day and now you want to cap it off. I think it is a big no no. Other people would be elated to have that many people coming to their special day. And I know it may hurt your budget but think about all the fun you will have in the end. We invited 200 people to our DW and have 27 confirmed guests. Good Luck!

I think I'm just so caught off gaurd, shocked and amazed at the same time, I invited 150 thinking I would only get no more than 50-60. My other friend who got married in Aruba invited 300 and she got 35 guest that attended, you invited 200 and got 27. so i thought i was ok with sending out 150 STD's. I am very happy that so many peolple want to be apart of our day, its just hard trying to re-evaluate what I planned and money also plays apart of course, it just adds more stress to the already stressful wedding planning lol..... but I think in the end whats going to happen is, the booking won't be cut off and we will get additional help from our parents if the budget becomes overwhelming
