They never really do tell you how much of an adjustment you go through when you have a baby. Once you get past that - its a lot of fun. I had a difficult first 6 months with Logan as he was such a busy baby but I look back and miss that time with him. They grow up soooo fast. I cant beleive his is in SK and is 5 already! Where does the time go?

Shout out to my fellow albertans! There arent too many of us on here!! Congrats!

Its def been interesting couple of years.
How have things been for you? Did you always know you two would get married?
I'm sure you're going to have a few more interesting years to come!!
I'm not looking forward to year 14-20, I think I can do without that stress! lol
actually I could probably bump that to 14 yrs - 24 yrs!! lol TERRIFIED!

Things have been really good, we were very lucky and our adjustment period came quite late actually. I had a really crappy pregnancy, thought I was going to loose him just after the 3 month mark, then he had heart issues so I was in the hospital being monitored 3-4 times weekly-that resolved on their own Thank God! SO pregnancy and BIRTH/recovery were the hardest for me. He ate and slept really well from the start so that was a nice break for us as new parents. The real adjustment happened when he started crawling and getting into absolutely everything! Can't leave him alone for a minute the little bugger!! lol I count my lucky stars daily because we have friends who have had extremely difficult, almost unhappy, babies. Our guy is pretty good wherever we go and loves parties and people!
As far as always knowing we'd get married, no, not from the beginning but we were young. I'd say no talk of marriage the first 2 years for sure - but we weren't mature enough, not to say that some people are mature enough in their early 20's - but We Definitely were not!! lol
Then as time went on, of course it was the natural progression so there was marriage talk but no rush...we had the commitment to each other and that's all we needed. I'd say 2 1/2 years ago we definitely decided to put ourselves on track to get married, so made the big decision to pick up our lives and move to Alberta, after the big Boom lol! When we arrived I was sick as a dog - like hated everything about Alberta, I was sour! Missed home desperately, couldn't stand the traffic, couldn't stand the lack of Ocean and couldn't stand the taste of the water here - I was Pregger's!! lol
So I do seriously apologize to all Albertan's for any profanities I may have spewed when I arrived - I was extremely hormonal!! lol
I actually went to the doctor thinking I had a UTI!! hahaha, way off!

I had hip dysplasia which means i had a cast for the first 3 months of my life. So, i figure he's defective..haha. Seriously though, i was so careful with everything and am pretty healthy. Ate organic, worked out, drank water, don't smoke, etc etc. It was pretty shocking. The facial development occurs in the first 6-10 wks of gestation. It happens when the 2 ridges above your lip are forming and something occurs that prevents this from fully forming correctly to the nose.

Re: ultrasounds. It should have picked it up but they are so quick around the head that unless there is cause they generally focus on the organ and limb development. next baby i will go to another hospital for full craniofacial exam of the fetus to know what to expect. You really can do only what you can do make yourself healthy. I didn't know i was preggers until about 7 wks and had some drinks, but seriously meth addicts have healthy babies....how can a few drinks cause this? you really never know.
Sorry I had to chuckle when you said your dad's defective...

Well we're never given more than we can handle!! Our 2 year old just had tonsil & adenoids removed 3 weeks ago...the recovery was harder on me, that it was her! I was crying in the recovery room b/c my lil princess was in pain and there was sh*t we could do about it. She had ear tubes put in back in may, but that was 10 minute procedure, she was more frightened than in pain. It's tuff being parents...especially when things happen and you just don't know why...

Our guy is going to be our ring bearer at just under 2 years, we are just squeaking him in on the plane while he's still free!! lol
So I think he could possible be a HUGE handful - and we'll be truly thankful that all the grandparents are going to be in Mexico with us so we'll have tons of babysitters!!
On the cleft lip note, I don't really know what causes it...I'm assuming it's hereditary but then again I have no idea? I'm sure we'll find out soon though!
Congrats and Welcome BTW!! Maybe you'll be able to help me out with the whole potty training issue!! LOL, not like we're anywhere near that yet - he's 16 months but I'm already terrified!!
Well we don't really have a choice...they money isn't flowing like it should be...and we're hoping that things will look better for us b4 4/2/11!! :) That would be interesting to have our lil lady our ceremony now...I just don't think it would work out...she's got the terrible two blues -- falling out on the floor and everything! If it means waiting til she's almost 4...sign me up!!

I have been working in the dental feild for over 12 yrs now and have to say that they really arent too sure. They say that it isnt hereditary by any means, but moreso coincidence if someone else in your family has one. They lean more towards just having a little snag while developing in utuero(sp?).
Its not something you could have known as it is really hard to see on an ultrasound, unless of course if its a very large cleft that involves the roof of the mouth (maxilla). There is nothing you can do to stop your baby from getting one and is usually very easy to fix if it is a conventional cleft lip and not cleft palate. The scar never really goes away, but it does fade and a lot of people dont even notice it after a few years. It really depends on the surgeon you have and how well they can reform that area. Your daughter may have some isues down the road dentally, like with the frenum (which is that little peice of skin that attaches from your upper gums to your upper lip). Sometimes when they reform that area, the little peice of skin becomes tight as she grows. If this happens they just make a small cut in it (doesnt hurt when frozen) and everything is fixed. Some kids tend to be more cavity prone bc of the cleft lip, only bc they sometimes turn into mouth breathers at night. That is not an easy fix, but rather some retraining. This is very hard to do bc unless you sleep with them everynight your not going to be able to stop this habit. My guy is a mouth breather and there really is not much I can do about it, except for continually waking him up and I think that would be the death of me if I did. lol
Other then that, she really should have no issues. Even what I stated above, may be a non issue for her. I depends on the child and circumstances of the cleft.
So this is nothing you did or could have prevented. Just how things go sometimes. My son has a birth mark in the centre of his forehead right in between his eyes. And whenever he cries or gets upset, you see that birthmark. It will be the same for your daughter while she is young. The area might get more pink or red if she is upset or overly active, etc. but will fade over time. She is a beautiful baby and she will grow into a beautiful little girl and woman. I wouldnt worry about this at all.
Congrats on your baby and the upcoming wedding!!!

I'm a sick Mommy with an even more sick baby!!!

Sucks, I'd so rather change a poopy diaper than constantly chase after a 16 month old touching everything constantly with the snottiest nose I've ever encountered!!

I swear, I have to disinfect everything in the house once an hour!! lol

All I want to do is sleep.....

I must have missed this thread...

I have two boys Ashton (6 years old) and Logan (8 years old) from a previous marriage. It was hard to make the decision to divorce my ex, I felt gulity for what I was doing to my children but I knew having them see a poor example of a relationship and how their dad treated women was not the example I wanted for them. He does a good job being a dad, but not so good being a husband. We fought all the time and there was so much resentment. Now they have an example of a loving relationship and I have actually seen a difference in them.

I didn't think I would meet someone so soon after spliting up with my ex but Michael came into my life a few months later. He lived in another state, 4 hours away. He has a daughter Samantha, she will be 14 in two weeks (God help us!) He was also previously married.

Long story short, we did the long distance thing for 11 months and then he left his job of 9 years and moved him and his daugther up to Iowa with me and my boys. It is a complete mad house! 3 kids with busy lives (soccer, piano, cubscouts, cross country) and that is just this fall! Trying to plan a wedding always falls to the back burner.

What is funny is that when I was married to my ex, my "fantasy" was daydreaming about living alone, or well, at least with out the man! It's hard to explain that kind of thing without someone gasping and saying "what about your kids!" No, I love my kids to death, but I never lived alone, ever, period! I would thing about how nice if would be to only worry about myself and to not have to answer to anyone and do what I want when I want. Aww... dreams.

So instead I went the other extreme! I added a step daughter that is "testing her limits" with me! She gets good grades and doesn't get into trouble but she thinks she is smarter and better than everyone else... oh right she is a teenager! lol wink.gif But the added stress of a teenage girl in the house is seriously too much some days!

But I wouldn't trade it for the world, Michael is the best thing that has ever happened to me, he is truly my other half. Some days we both want to cry at the chaos that is our lives but regardless we stick it out together in order to be with each other. We go back and forth on having a baby. He is 34 and doesn't want to "start over" and I agree, the kids are older and we want more time for the two of us. But we still want to share that bond together of having a child together. So someday we plan to and hopefully I won't be bald from pulling my hair out by then!
