Yikes! I would be freaking out too. I've put so much time and effort into reasearching the perfect resort that I'd be SO nervous to just pick up a move to a different one! Sounds like the WC and you have everything under control though and bonus if you get a better resort and free stuff! Definitely keep us posted!

Its OFFICIAL the Riu Vallarta will be CLOSED for the month of October!!!! All of our guests will be moved to the Riu Palace Pacifico. It sure is an upgrade but Im feeling really bummed right now. I had my heart set on the Riu Vallarta and now 25 days before we leave the plans have changed.

Im still waiting to see what's going to happen for our reception. Originally we were having our wedding in the ballroom but the Riu Palace Pacifico doesn't have one.

I would be asking for some freebies! Especially since you had to find out on your own. They have to have known about this closure prior to now and since you weren't informed that's pretty poor service IMO. Even with the upgraded resort I would ask for something to make it worth the hassle.

I agree with you. Im sure that they knew about this closure and they decide not to let us know. The ball is on our court so i will definately be asking away for freebies!! My thing that is getting to me is that we had everything planned out for the wedding and now I dont even know where its going to be or whats going to happen. I should find out tomorrow but even though they come back to us with options we are not going to be able to see what we are getting until we get there. FI and I took a site visit trip last year to take a look at our reception options because we did not want any surprises. I guess that didnt go to well. I just hope and pray that everything turns out ok.

I just read this, and my heart started racing for you!! I CANNOT believe they didn't notify you a long time ago about the closure. Our wedding is about 2 months away, and I can't imagine having that added stress right now. What happened to the easy-breezy planning of a desintaion wedding?? My fingers are definitely crossed for you!

Unfortunately with the economy this is happening more & more - we've seen it with several resorts chains (Iberostar, Azul fives ect). They are consolidating staff and guests to the higher end resorts within their chain (at no additional costs) so that they can deliver a good product. This is instead of shutting down many of the restaurants, offering less menu options and closing facilities at the standard properties.

Typically this is a last minute decision -based upon occupancy levels ( they are waiting till the last minute hoping that levels pick up-if not they go ahead with the consolidation).

You will not get higher prices for the guests that have already booked- they will honor the rates . For those who have not yet booked- they may end up paying the going rate for the new hotel.

It never hurts to ask for additional wedding amenities- just don't be suprised if they are not huge or existant at all. many times the resorts say that they are giving an upgrade to the higher end property (which is true). Usualy the higher end resort would be a difference of 200-600 per couple as the experience tends to offer better food, beverage and amenities.

Believe me I understand how stressful it can be but the end result is you will be marrying the person you love the most in the whole world! The experience will be amazing!
