Newbie...Moon Palace Bride!!!

Hello Everyone,

I'm pretty new on this site and I have to say I absolutely love this site!! Thanks to all of you who makes this site so informative!!!

Quick question, I have a particular bridesmaid dress that I LOVE, it exactly what I want to see my girls in but the price of the dress is $338. Do you think that is too much to ask your bridesmaids to spend on a dress? It's not a typical bridesmaid that can't be worn again. It's a cocktail dress that can be worn to any kind party.

Your response would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kim

hi Kim, Welcome to BDW!

personally i wouldnt be able to afford a dress like that, and if a friend asked me to do that, i would be offended (basically because any of MY friends should know i cant afford it!) BUT i know my situation doesnt apply to everyone. if your friends are young, single, with no bills, responsibilities etc, and you know they are able to afford something like that, then go for it!

another option is to shop around. you may be able to find a very similar dress that everyone could afford and you wouldnt have to question if its too much. or, is there something specific about it you love? the color, style, etc? you could always search similar details for a different less expensive option.

Hi MrSRobinsonwelcome.gif

Personally for me, $338 is little pricey. Is this a destination wedding? If it is, keep in mind that they also have to pay their travel and hotel expenses. Like Abbie stated: if they're single with no bills and responsibilities, and you know they will able to afford it, go for it. Otherwise, that's a high price for a BM dress. I'd say shop around, you may be able to find a better price.

Welcome!

In regards to the dress that does seem a little excessive to spend.  Is there any way you could find a similiar dress for cheaper?  Or what about paying half the dress, or the entire cost of the dress as a gift for your bridesmaids?  We payed for our bridesmaid dresses, just because we were expecting them to travel to our destination as well.

Congratulations Kim and welcome to the forums! As for how expensive is too expensive... that is really up to you. You know your friends the best and what they would be comfortable with. Its always best just to be open and honest and tell them your thoughts and concerns. Be open to what they have to say and go from there!

Best of luck with everything.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Pierre Violle, I did not think of that I will definitely get in contact with a local streamstress to get a quote...Great idea!

JayKay, I was going to buy their shoes and jewelry but not the dress, that's something to think about if I can't find something equally nice.

Thanks again! I really appreciate it...

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi there! I am new to this website too and I have recently found a website called inweddingdress.com that might be the solution to your problem.  They make any dress at a fraction of the cost.  You can send them a picture of the dress and they can replicate it!  Check it out. See what you think. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
