Default Asking for Free Upgrades??

Aaron and I are going to Disney World for our honeymoon, and today I officially started the research. I literally spent the entire day searching the internet for info, deals and tips - and I found that a lot of people suggested "asking for free upgrades". Does anyone actually ask for free upgrades? How the heck do you do that? Like, "excuse me, but can you give me something better, but for free?".

I was just curious if anyone actually does this on a regular basis. I think the newlywed shirts (if Aaron would even let me get them!) might help, but I'm curious how to ask. lol.

P.S. I swear, it won't ruin my trip if I don't get upgraded - but free stuff is always fun!!

oh yea, we asked for an upgrade at Dreams. granted, they had put us in the back corner, possibly the worst room you could have, so anything would be an upgrade! but you'd be surprised how many times you can get an upgrade for free by just asking! now, don't cross the line and be a bridezilla and get pissed when you DON'T get it, they're not obligated! the best way to do it is to be all sweet and giddy, like honeymooners should be!

I've done it before but you have the best excuse ever - honeymoon! I bet if they have the room they'll do it for you guys. I don't know if there is protocol but I would say "We're on our honeymoon, are there any complimentary upgrades available?". If you aren't comfortable straight out asking, say something like "My TA advised me to ask about your complimentary honeymoon upgrade" that way if they act like it's bizarre you can put it off on the TA....lol

Oooh.. blaming the TA - I Love it! lol.

No, I'm totally not like that to get upset if I DON'T get upgraded. I'm not too concerned about the rooms, because we won't spend tons of time there anyways, but I really do like free stuff! lol

we usually give them a heads up that the couple is honeymooning but even with this, they get so busy at checkin that sometimes wires get crossed and information not passed along so it is ALWAYS a good idea to let the people know upon checkin that you are honeymooning/anniversary etc.

So true. At Dreams it wasn't noted on their end at first and I know our TA noted it at some point, but once they knew they were very accomodating - almost too much so...lol We were surprised when we checked in for our honeymoon at the RIU, the lady gave us our room assignment and we were about to leave the desk when she saw our TA put "honeymoon" on the paperwork. She said she wanted to offer us a room with a better view and it would take an extra hour to get ready, or we could have our original room right away. We waited and it was very nice.

Are you using a TA to plan your disney world trip? My TA specializes in Disneyworld. If you are interested I can give you her info.

You can also get a free planning DVD off the Disney Parks page. I haven't watched mine yet, but it came in the mail really fast. We are going in a few years once my FIs nephews & neices are old enough.

Courtney can you just say that you'll be there for your Honeymoon and is there anything special that you get? Maybe that's a round about way to ask for free stuff.

wow - i apparently went to the wrong check-in people! did you do a room block? i wonder if that's why - paul and i had to beg to get out of our crap room - we eventually got moved up one floor, and were at least able to get a king bed - but no luck on anything else. were far from accomodating! but we still had a fabulous time - the running joke all week was that paul's parents had the "bridal suite" - they had a really nice room on the top floor.

I don't think it hurts to ask Courtney, the worst they could say is no.

Last month when we went to New Orleans the fron staff at the Drury in the French Quarter were very accomadating. They asked us why we were there and visiting. The moment they heard we had just got married they upgraded us immediatley to a suite. It was sooo nice of them and I didn't expect it, So I think theres no harm in even asking.
