Proper way to pack your wedding dress

Recommended Posts

I remember some time ago seeing someone posting the proper way to pack your wedding gown if you are going to put it in a travel suitcase rather than carry it in the garment bag. I seem to recall it saying you put the dress inside out, but I can't remember much more. Can anyone provide any help?

Also, do any past brides have any recommendations/thoughts on carrying the dress in a garment bag versus a carry on? I'm still undecided (even though we leave in 2 days)

I can't answer your question but all I have to say is that I will have my dress with me at all times during the flight (not putting it in a suitcase)!

AND I WISH YOU A GREAT TRIP BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING DAY !

Can't wait to see all your pictures!

Thanks Annie! And I am keeping my dress with me at all times too. Sorry, I should've clarified when I said suitcase that I mean one of those rolly carry-on suitcases that will never leave my side. There's no way I'm risking losing the dress!

I don't remember the post about turning the dress inside out. When I stuffed my dress in my carry on to get it home, I left all of the tissue paper on the inside of it, left it in its garment bag, and then carefully rolled it up before putting it in my rolley carry-on. I believe some other brides have mentionned packing the dress in a large sheet. You'll probably still have to get it steamed or pressed.

I've read on here to use one of those really soft baby sheets.. Natasha (I believe) had her alterations person pack it in her carry-on suitcase and it came out beautifully.. I'm planning on carrying it on and hoping they let me put it in the closet.

I've seen pictures of dresses on a bust form, but not sure where those came from but that probably doesn't have much to do with the travels of the dress. Unless you stuff with tissue paper, but I don't know.

I had my bridal salon prepare my dress for flight, they steam it so it had no wrinkles and then put a bust form card board thing in there to keep the dress from moving around. I carried it on the plane in a garment bag and hung it in the flight attendants closet. When I arrived in Cabo it was stuck in that back for 3 more days because I didn't want Cain to see it, when we checked into the Sheraton (we stayed there two nights) I put it in the closet and took it out of the garment bag. Because they had tile floors, I put a towel on the bottom of the closet to make sure it wouldn't get dirty. It was perfectly fine, no wrinkles..

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
