Before settling on Las Caletas we were considering a villa or Majahuitas. Majahuitas is a beautiful secluded beach and there is an open-air boutique hotel there. It is south of PV.
They do complete weddings too. It's similar to Las Caletas in that there are no roads there so your guests would arrive and depart by boat. Their food is highly spoken of and the lady I was in touch with - briefly - was very nice and on the ball.
It's definitely one of those unique places your guests will continue to rave about. It would make a lovely honeymoon too. Mexico Boutique Hotels presents Majahuitas |

What made you choose Las Caletas over this?

We'd been to Rythyms of the Night before, so Las Caletas was kind of a special/romantic place to us. Also we were intrigued by the history of Las Caletas. We knew we weren't going to do a scouting trip no matter where we got married so we also kind of wanted a place we had set foot on before so there were no surprises. And we wanted somewhere totally private which I only found in a villa or Las Caletas. Majahuitas is close to private, but the hotel is there and there are no walls on the rooms/buildings so even though the hotel is small, there would be onlookers and it wouldn't be our private island paradise feeling as was Las Caletas.
Finally, I had confidence in Vallarta Adventures and knew with them I'd be in good hands. They do tons of weddings. The lady I was in contact with at Majahuitas was also kind and knowledgeable but they don't do too many weddings (or they hadn't at the time). It's a resort on a beach that does the occasional wedding. I think they were more expensive too. I can see if I saved that email if you want some info. I'm sure the weddings are amazingly beautiful!!

Well, it was the home of John Huston, famous movie director and father to Anjelica Huston. In the 60's he filmed Night of the Iguana in PV starring Richard Burton, and that's what put PV on the map and started attracting moviestars and regular folks as a vacation spot. (sidenote - Burton was having a scandalous public affair in PV with Liz Taylor, there are some cool stories to google about that)
Anyhow, Las Caletas is where Huston settled and lived until his death. There is a tiny museum at Las Caletas with his belongings and photos, it's pretty neat. Here is a cool pic and a link to his thoughts on Las Caletas: About John Huston and Las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta Mexico |
