I am flying Delta. I called ahead of time, and their rep said they would gladly put it in the coat closet IF THERE WAS ROOM. I can't imagine the closet being that full, so I am taking my chances that my dress will be able to fit! Ahh..makes me a little nervous!

When I picked up my dress at the store, the asked me if I wanted one. It was $10. Try your bridal shop, they probably have them.

I flew Continental and carried mine on. I was expecting some kind of special treatment about hearing everyone else's stories...I even wore my "Bride" tank top. I also saw lots of ladies in the airport with big old dress bags.
The closet they had to store my dress in front was about three feet tall, so not that great. One of the connections they let me lay it flat in first class. All-in-all, it wasn't too much of a pain, but I knew I was having it pressed when I got to Mexico, so no sweat about the close quarters.
In no stretch of the imagination would I ever have checked my dress. You have to just be adamant, especially since they cost so much.

YOu know, $10 isn't much (that's what I had to pay for mine) but you would THINK that after spending mucho $$$$ in their bridal store that they could throw in the friggin' dress bag .... right??

I know that WestJet will allow you to bring your dress on and either put in the closet or overhead bin... I still have to check with Air Canada but I imagine they would do the same..

We flew US Airways and had no problems storing my gown and Jay's suit in the coat check. I did call ahead because I did not want any surprises. My bridal boutique gave me one of those white sturdy plastic garment bags so thats what I used. No 1st class upgrades or champagne for us though.

It was just a pain to carry the gown through the airport and I was super glad the resort was steaming and ironing our wedding garments

my future cousin-in-law is a flight attendant for continental and she told me to ask to put my dress in the closet. she said i could call ahead, but all they would say was "ok, we'll make a note of it"....she said she's always been really good with brides bringing their dresses on flights....so hopefully i will get someone as nice as her!

would love for her to fly on our flight!! lol
guess i should ask my bridal shop about the $10 garment bag too!! lol...anyway to get more money out of us, huh!

In fact by doing this we also brought it to the stewardess' attention and later they moved us to first class... I swear I'm carrying a large white garment bag whenever I travel - even if it's empty!

i dont think there is a list of airlines that will have something this specific but you may want to ask when you book your airfare if they will allow you to carry on your dress and/or give you special considerations.

If you call they'll say it's on a space available basis, but if the closets are full you can still carry it on, you'll just have to lay it flat in the overhead which isn't a big problem.

Great stories! I'll cross my fingers and hope I come home with a story like that.
