I like arches 6 & 11 but dont know if we can swing it. I wanna do the beach wedding but may just have to do it without the arch (ugh) or do it on that pier gazebo.

I thought the idea of DW's was to narrow our decisions!!!

Yeah, 6 & 11 were the ones I likes also, but I don't even want their flowers on them! I am bringing my own stuff. I am tempted to try to bring my own damn bamboo!

Funny you say that b/c my boss's daughter got married last year at the Outer Banks and he made one for her so I was asking him how he did it. He said the bamboo was like 10 feet tall...so I figure that wouldnt fit in my suitcase

for Troy (though)...

Troy if you and/or your fiance could update this thread as you go with whatever information you gather, that would be extremely helpful to any new members. I tried to do that with whatever information I gathered as they came along, hope it helps.

yes, i definitely will keep you updated. monica and i need to read through this post and ask any questions that haven't already been answered....

has anyone been to 'Our Lady of Fatima' catholic church in ochos rios? pics? monica was wondering...

we are debating on paying the extra fee to have a private dinner reception (i think it's $35 more per person) over the standard appetizer only deal. thoughts?

what is the 'commemorative gift' that you receive if you get the beaches name published in your newspaper?

thanks,

troy

Our Beaches Boscobel wedding is January 11, 2009.

We haven't done much planning, but I will keep posting to this thread as I go along (thanks for pointing us in the right direction, Carly).

Right now we know that we have approximately 50 guests attending the wedding. We had all of our guests make their own reservations, and choose their own level of room, arrival date, departure date, airline, etc. Because our guests are flying in from all over the county, that has been a lot less stress for me.

We are planning to have the wedding on the lawn area (we think). Neither of the gazebos appeared large enough to hold 50 guests in any sort of way that they could actually see. Any advice?

We are planning to have the private dinner only with a DJ. Do we need the reception and the dinner? Is it worth it to pay for both? We don't yet know if we get to choose the location for this or not. I need to call Renee. I am off work next week, so it is on my list of things to do. Any information

We do know that we can choose two different adult meals and one childs meal for the reception. But again... I do need to call Renee.

We are not certain about flowers. The ones they offer for purchase do seem expensive, but I am not sure what my other choices are. Can anyone offer advice on this?

What I have done...
STD are DONE!
1. I have a dress
2. My MOH has a dress
3. My flower girl has a dress
4. Groomsmen have clothing
5. Fathers have clothing
6. Gifts have been purchased for wedding party (except for the ones FI needs to purchase...)
7. We ordered embroidered beach towels for our favors
And I guess that is all so far...

I hope I've helped! If you (or anyone else) has any other questions, post them here, so that everyone can see the answers and hopefully help each other out along the way.

Good luck with the rest of your planning!

As I am working through the planning stages, I have come across a few questions that I am not getting "straight" answers to. My wedding planner seems to have a certain set of quotes she can use, and that is what I get.

I was hoping you could help.

1. Is there a bar that is better suited for bachelor party? One that is open later or one that has more entertainment that men may prefer?
Hmmm. I would have to say the bar by the pool would be the best for a bachelor party, but it is only open until 12. I think it would be the best cuz they have sportscenter on nonstop. After 12, they could go to the Piano Bar (my suggestion) or the Disco. I think the Disco was pretty gross and we only went there one night, however, it did end up being one of our funnest nights. (That might be b/c it was the only night with all of my guests partying besides the wedding night, but we did have fun.) The Piano Bar was nice and the bartenders there did bar tricks (Godfrey and Marcelo, we only hung out with Godfrey and he was great.) Those are the only two bars open until 2am. There is also the Appleton Bar or something like that, and we never went there, it was kinda secluded and not that full, so that might be a place they could do the bachelor party and maybe have it to themselves kinda. I am not being much help here, but I figured telling you a bit about each bar can help you make the decision best for your group.

2. My future father-in-law is very set with the idea of having a rehearsal dinner. We are not willing to be charged or let him be charged for this dinner (we feel we are already spending enough money at the resort). If we did a late lunch (3pm) would it be easier to be seated in a restaurant? (I have been told that they don't take reservations, so I am trying to make this happen without them). If so, which one would you recommend for 14 people at that time of the day?
How many people/rooms do you have booked? If you have 10 rooms booked, you should get a free welcome dinner, that perhaps you could have them turn into a rehearsal dinner? We only had 9, so we didn't get that. Regarding a 3pm rehearsal lunch, there are only a few places open for serving food at that time, so it might actually be harder. Will you want them to do an actual rehearsal or are you just trying to get a group meal together?

we did a group meal one night with the entire group at The Venetian and we just put our names in and went to the bar while we waited for the table. I think it took less then an hour to get enough tables cleared for us. I think this information is posted in this thread, or in my review... So my point is, if you jsut want a group dinner, I think you could do that at regular time as long as you know that you will put your name in and wait. Oh we had about 25 people, so you group is much smaller and would probably be easier to accommodate.

3. My Aunts are having their 50 birthday while we are in Jamaica. We were hoping to have a cake at some point. Any recommendations on what might work?
Jeez, I don't know what to say on this one, cuz we didn't look into that. I am sure you could arrange for the resort to make them a cake. Or you could have the servers surprise them with singing at the table and a regular dessert. I saw that happen a few times. But if you really want cake, I am sure they could do it for you since they do the wedding cakes too. I just don't know if htey would charge you a million dollars for it. Have you asked Cavel or Kamesha? I would think this would be a straightforward question, but I guess nothing is straightforward with them is it...

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer questions. It helps... a lot!

Ok so why do you have to pay for a reception dinner if this is an all inclusive resort? As long as the party is staying at the resort why do you have to pay extra
