I also don't know any CR photogs but I know lots of photographers that travel all the time. Feel free to email me your budget info as well and I'll see if I can give you some recommendations.

I hear ya . . . but seriously - it never hurts to go to them with what your budget will allow & ask them to give you a quote. I get inquiries all the time & most times I can easily stay within their budget.

I'm not a photographer, but I can definately comment on this as a neutral 3rd party.

A friend of mine in the NYC metro area quit his job a few years ago at a data processing IT place and started to intern at a famous area photographer. He did that for many dozens of weddings, sometimes doing lighting, sometimes as backup. Then he did a few small weddings for extended family... Now, I guess 3-4 years later, he has his own shingle out. Unsually, to me, this means that if I hired him, I'd still be getting "junior" photography, subpar framing, composition, and customer skills, just because of the experience level. I've read a hundred threads about how someone loves to take pictures of their cat, so now they are a photographer. So I guess I'm sticking up for experienced shutterbugs here. But the interesting thing to me is, the guy take unbelievable pictures. He doesn't talk much. He's not a chatterbox. But boy, my wife looks back at our wedding in 1996, a thousand years ago, and we had, uh, shall we say, some fuddy-duddy guy. He was highly recommended, she recalls. I don't quite remember. I hardly remember cutting the cake. Anyway, my wife is still miffed 'til this day on how much her parents spent on this dipstick. My former data processing shutterbug friend far surpasses in quality.

What the heck is the point here. Oh yeah. So he's got like 4-5 yrs max experience, so the point is, flying him out to an island ( he just did like 3 islands in the last month or two ) with expenses can STILL be cheaper than a local guy preying on the rich northerners and their fat wallets...

Just a thought about putting the cost into perspective, if it helps any...

If you bug me, I'll give you the website, I just didn't want to seem like I signed some sort of co-marketing agreement with him... :-)

I too was having a really hard time finding someone to shoot my wedding in Costa Rica. I did find a few that I liked but I was not really impressed with the work or they were way out of my budget. What I did do was look at Craig’s Listing in the Costa Rica section and then looked up photography and a few came up. I also found this man that does photography on the internet. Trust me I have been doing tons of research on this. I can give you his name if you like. I really like his work and he was reasonable fair with his prices! Let me know if you are interested.
