Gran Porto Real~ Review, Kinda

Recommended Posts

A good friend of mine just got married there this past Friday.

Well....half of her guests had to stay at a different location, 30 min. away, at the Sandos because they overbooked by 45 rooms.

The bride was SO sad and upset because all her friends and half her family were so far away.

The hotel was VERY rude and acted like it was THE GUESTS fault! The tried negotiating for FIVE hours...no luck!

They said the wedding itself was ok but the mother of the bride was 15 minutes late because they were trying to get her a ride from Sandos to Gran Porto Real and the WC was mad trying to tell them they had to start right then WITHOUT the mother of the bride. She eventually gave in and waited for the mother to get there but was rude and unprofessional.

Thats too bad that this resort seems to be practicing a customer NO service policy. They don't seem to realize that their actions are transparently reflected via websites and forums such as this one. It doesn't "PAY" to not make your guests happy, especially if you are rude and unaccommodating. An online reputation can make a difference.

this is actually NOT a rare occurance and does happen more often than you think.

hotels do overbook and when they do, there are tiers of who gets preferential service.

Groups, when booked as a block are usually they last one to get moved to another resort. those booked on expedia, etc are usually the first....usually because its not like expedia is going to call the hotel out on what they did...there really is no recourse when booking through those sites.

That's a crazy story about the Sol photographer! That poor bride! I am sure the photographer is better off not doing business there anyhow!

The rooms (and air) were booked with a TA. Although I am not sure if they had a room block. I will find out though...

yeah, i have talked to hotels about this issue and they tell me that they keep groups if blocked together and will move others to sister hotels. it happens alot at riu as well....but it is not as bad at riu because the resorts are usually pretty close together and PB chain in cabo but they have a free shuttle to the sister resorts.

WOw, wow, wow! I have stayed at the sister resort, Royal Porto Real (or whatever it's called now...) two times and although the resort was beautiful they did not seem to have good customer service at the front desk. For such a nice hotel, they really have a tendency to treat their customers like cr@p. It's a shame, cause like I said it's a beautiful hotel with GREAT rooms.

I'm really glad we have a TA now who specializes in DWs. She steered us clear of the Real resorts and instead is really pushing for the Iberostar family. We are going down there in early June to check them out. I've heard their customer service is good and that's a very important thing to me during our wedding, for both us and our guests!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
