karma: 2 | Mi Casa - Site Review
We had our initial site inspection on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 7:00PM. We will be using Mi Casa for our rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 guests.
Our group of 6 was promptly ushered to the newer portion of the restaurant, past the main open-air area, into the lower portion of the next patio.
While there was some initial confusion about our meeting with Mauricio, everything worked out well. Mauricio wasn’t there when we arrived, so we were a little unsure of whether he was going to show or not, but our waiter kept assuring us he would arrive eventually. Apparently there was another bride & groom meeting with Mauricio that evening who had changed their wedding dates which now was conflicting with another party, so there was some confusion as to what group we belonged.
After Mauricio arrived, everything was straightened out. He is young, but spoke great English and we were able to communicate easily. I believe he is the group coordinator for all of the Mi Casa-owned restaurants, Peacock’s, Mi Casa del Mariscos, etc. One thing to note about Mi Casa’s group events – your numbers can change up to 72 hours prior to the event, which is ideal for an event which has an ever-changing head count.
Anticipating approximately 100 guests, we decided to reserve the newest portion of the restaurant, which is adjacent to the area in which we dined. With iron gates as the entry, it allows a group to have its own area without intruding upon the general guests of the restaurant. The area we have chosen has its own bar and kitchen, and its own restrooms.
Another plus for the area, it has a large media screen and a projector which runs on a DVD, with surround sound. This will work perfectly for our slideshow that will be showing after dinner. The screen is actually placed towards the ceiling, so from any location within the area, our guests will be able to see the screen, rather than having to sit uncomfortably or tilt their heads to get a good view.
Now, onto the food.
Knowing what the group packages consist of, I tried to make sure my table ordered one of everything that we would be serving our guests. We added a few appetizers, specifically the marlin quesadillas which were outstanding.
The tortilla soup was perfect, not too heavy. El Mole Poblano, is a chicken dish smothered with mole sauce. Honestly, I was a little worried about this dish, thinking we might want to substitute it for a more “normal” chicken dish for those picky guests. But after tasting it, there is no way it’s coming off the menu – it was fabulous. Our guests can order it with the mole on the side if they’re that picky! The Filet de Res was delicious and spicy, perfectly cooked steak with tender new potatoes. But the best meal by far was the Carne Asada. My father brilliantly proclaimed that it was the best carne asada he has ever had! It is served with an enchilada which will be overshadowed by the delicious steak. No one ordered the fish in banana leaf, but I’ve had that before on another visit and loved it.
Being that we were on an official site visit, we decided also that it would only be fair to our guests to try out the desserts we might be providing. What a tough job! We ordered Flan, Tres Leches, Sweet Rice and the ice cream dish. By far, the Tres Leches was the overall winner. The cake was moist and sweet but not overpowering. Next came the Flan, which was much denser and heavier than our flan at Edith’s, but I personally liked it better. Ice cream is ice cream and was delicious in a sweet shell. And the sweet rice, which was our favorite last visit, came in last place – probably solely due to its competition.
The atmosphere at Mi Casa is always entertaining. The mariachis play, the colors are vibrant and the wait staff is always pleasant. It’s a perfect place to host a group event, and it’s wonderfully casual. There are a ton of pictures on their website, and I am happy to share actual pictures of the area we have reserved with anyone who is interested.

Tlseege, yes, the prices listed on thier website is in pesos! I don't think there's a tortilla soup in the world that's worth $50!

We have booked our rehersal at Mi Casa also. Anthony and I ate there two years ago and loved it....The tortilla soup is amazing and all of the dishes we tried were great. When I emailed mi casa, they were extremely quick on their response and very friendly.
Did anyone go with their actual pre-made menu plan...or did you just order as you pleased off of the menu. We are having about 30 people at our rehersal.

Angela,
We are using their group menus, Menu A, so the price is set prior to the event, but it still gives our guests the ability to choose their meal!

All liquor pricing I have found in Los Cabos so far is about 4x more expensive than in the States, and haven't had much luck negotiating (obviously alcohol is where they make their margin)...so we're going with beer, margaritas, Cokes & water for our Welcome Dinner (but that's because we'll have 125 people there!) No need for our guests to have a full open bar when we'll be providing that at the reception.
Oh, and we're doing it all on consumption, the dinner at Mi Casa and our reception.
I have attached the beverage pricing, in case anyone needs it, it's at the end of the document!

Jill would you recommend this place for a wedding dinner? My mom wants me to find a lively place with entertainment for our wedding dinner
